Received a PSP for my birthday and am looking for some recommendations on RPG's. I picked up a used copy the Dungeon Siege game and will probably be getting the Final Fantasy redux for olde time sakes, but am a bit apprehensive of the various Japanese-themed RPG imports (as I have little familiarity in the space). The Square-Enix game "Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth" looked pretty good so any user impressions would be most helpful. Also wanted to know if people thought it would just be better to wait a while for some of launches later in the year (which look fan fucking tastic). Thanks
I heartily recommend Guromin: A Monterous Adventure if you like Zelda style action RPG's. It's ultra cute, sp the setting might be a bit off putting to some.
The US is getting a Tales game if you don't want to bother with importing Eternia. It's some sort of compilation or something, combining characters from several of the games. The only one I got around to playing was Phantasia on the SNES, so I'm not sure of what all that implies.
Riviera is coming out on PSP in 2 weeks. The GBA version was fantastic and the PSP version gets bonus stuff, new/redone artwork, and full voice acting so it should be even better than the GBA version. Look up info on it though because it's not everyone's cup of tea. The battle system can be a little off-putting as well as the exploration system.
Excluding Dungeon Seige, I'd only recommend Tales of Eternia and Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth out of the current lineup.
There are however a bunch of awesome games that haven't been released yet. Jeanne d'Arc, Disgaea: PSP, Brave Story, Riviera, Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core, Star Ocean 1, Star Ocean 2, Final Fantasy I: Anniversary Edition and Final Fantasy Tactics. Oh yeah and there's supposed to be a Kingdom Hearts spinoff announced for the PSP at TGS.
Though I did rag on it a bit in the past, Tales of Eternia isn't that bad and I reccomend it.
I am keeping an eye out for the tactics rpgs like Jeanne d'Ark and FF: Tactics Lion War. The Final Fantasy I remake for PSP is out now and Final Fantasy II is to be released by the end of July.
The re-re-re-re-re-release of Final Fantasy 1 is freaking beatiful, but if you already played it and aren't a huge slut for square games you can probably pass.

I've got the PS1 port and I'll probably end up getting FF1 again when it comes out over here (which will probably be in 6 months if Square Enix Europe follow their reputation). I was going to get the GBA port eventually but with the PSP port, there's no reason to.
Then again, I'm not really all that fond of really old school RPG's. I'm only a few hours into the FF3 remake on the DS and I'm already kinda bored (I really should've got Pokemon instead...).
Sushisource: Is that the strategy game that's being developed for the PSP and DS? The 1UP Yours guys mentioned it a couple of months back.
Anyone heard anything about the D&D Tactics game being released? I feel like the concept for that game could be awesome if it's executed well.
Seriously, edition 3.5 is an SRPG. I'm interested in it, but haven't taken the plunge due to a stigma I have against D&D games that aren't on the computer. It's completely irrational, and I hear that the PS2/XB Baldur's Gate hack 'n slashes were great, but I still hold it.
Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology comes out July 17 (a Tales games on the PSP in America) and it looks really good. You create the main character, choose their job, etc. and your party consists of the main characters (along with one new) from past Tales games.
Jeanne D' Arc is supposed to be amazing (from the same team that did DQ8 IIRC) and it comes out August 21.
Then there's Final Fantasy Tactics which is just a classic, but it won't be out until sometime in October.
As Enix no longer had an American subsidiary, this game was not released in America, but was popular in Europe and Australia (published by Nintendo).
Huh! I just did a quick Google search then, and apparently it did come out here, but was "extremely rare". They must have only made, like, 500 or something, because I don't remember hearing a peep about it in the local press or seeing it any shops/video-stores. Anyway, there you go: you learn something new every day.
I wholeheartidly recommend Tales of Eternia as well.
Also, has anyone (besides eToy) had a chance to go hands-on with Brave Story? It looks very, very good, and I'm trying to decide between that and Tales of the World as my next PSP purchase.

Brave Story is looking really good. Evidently there is some exclusive content being added to the NA release that adds about 50 more hours of gameplay.

And I'll second Tales of Eternia.

They weren't. Avoid like the plague.
Anyhow, I hear FFT is coming to PSP.
Supposedly, if you like D&D it is pretty sweet. It follows the rules pretty flawlessly from what I have read in previews.
yeah
fft: the war of the lions
and final fantasy : dissida
are some upcoming rpgs.
If Dissidia is an RPG then I'd also like to recommend Tekken: Dark Resurrection. Awesome RPG.
oh right
forgot dissidia was more like an action adventure thing.
You know, I think that this is the first and only time I've heard an American say that about a game.
Terranigma
I am a freaking nerd.
Really? Terranigma came out in Europe? Well, it didn't fucking come out in Australia. What a gyp! :x
Hrmm... wonder if wikipedia has incorrect info then

Don't you mean Vub Rubben? ;-)
