I'm trying to remove the heatsink and fan on my motherboard, but I'm having trouble doing so. Every website I've seen says to "turn the clips a quarter and pull", but they don't tell which way to turn them (clockwise or counter-clockwise?). The little bastards refuse to unclip themselves from the motherboard, and I've exerted considerable force trying to do so. They only barely turned, too, when I moved them counter-clockwise (didn't try clockwise yet). Does anyone have pictures or any advice? This is incredibly frustrating >_<
...and I thought of how all those people died, and what a good death that is. That nobody can blame you for it, because everyone else died along with you, and it is the fault of none, save those who did the killing.
Make sure the screw slots are not pointing toward the heat sink. This unlocks them to be pulled up a little. Note that they are a post inside of a shaft. You want to pull the post up first, then the shaft. It's kinda like how a drywall screw works. I had the hardest time until I actually looked at how one locks. Even then, they can stick a bit.
