So...Iron Man?

When I was younger, I collected Iron Man comics fairly religiously. I subscribed to I-Man back in the days of the Armor Wars, the introduction of War Machine and Force Works. I stopped reading shortly after issue at around issue 315ish.

So thanks to the upcoming movie and Marvel Alliance and a few months back I picked up Ultimate Iron Man and Iron Man: Extremis. Thanks to them I've rekindled my interest in ole Shellhead. So I guess I kinda need a primer of what the series is up to these days.

Thanks to these forums, I have a passing understanding of Civil War, but haven't read any of the books.
I know he leads the Pro-Registration side and that he swayed Peter Parker onto his side and gave him some funky Iron Spidey armor with those wacky waldoes/claws whatever and that somehow Stark was able to reverse-engineer spidey sense and incorporate it into his armor (as if he wasn't powerful enough)

So I guess I need a little help with recent events and a timeline. I was under the impression that Parker got the Iron Spidey suit towards the end of Civil War. I picked up Iron Man: Execute Program yesterday and I just got the part where Spidey gets the tar beat out of him by some guy called Graviton. (don't spoil the rest of it for me) Well Pete was wearing the Iron Spidey outfit. This confused me as I thought Iron Man: Extremis and Iron Man: Execute Program happen prior to Civil War.
Thanatos Edit: Spoilers, dammit.

Now it's also my understanding that Extremis is the start of an entirely new volume of Iron Man. The comics I collected were Volume 1. I apparently missed volume 2, and Extremis is the start of volume 3 right?

Can anyone clear any of this up for me? Also, if I was interested in reading this Civil War stuff. what do I start with?

Gracias in advance compadres!

Actually Spidey was wearing the Iron Spider suit prior to Civil War.

And yes Extremis was a relaunch/renumbering of Iron Man, but unfortunatley the rest of the issues after that story have been fairly lame in my opinion.

You can read just the main Civil War series without reading any of the tie ins.

If you want to read good recent Iron Man stories, I would suggest New Avengers (up through Civil War) and then Mighty Avengers (which starts after Civil War).

Some other stuff you might want to look at is The Illuminati (of which he is a member).

And the current World War Hulk event, in which he plays a major role.

We have a comics section for questions like this. But, a timeline:
    - Iron Man and Captain America make a new Avengers team with Spider-Man on it, Spidey moves into the Stark Tower and gets fancy armor that can shapeshift and has extra arms.

    - Extremis probably happens around here.

    - The Illuminati, including Iron Man, shoot Hulk into space.

    - Civil War starts and the Avengers split. Iron Man talks Spidey into registering, but eventually he realizes he's on the wrong side and Iron Man beats the crap out of him.

    - Iron Man wins Civil War.

    - Iron Man spends a few months fucking with other people and making sure the line of people who want to kick his ass stretches for a couple blocks.

    - Hulk comes back and eats him. Well, beats him up anyways.

Also... not to nitpick, but Spidey's spider-sense was amped up by The Other, not the iron man suit.

I think he was referring to the fact that Stark worked out how Parkers Spider Sense worked while he was using the armor and is now able to evade and trick it.
Thanatos Edit: Please to not be posting spoilers in unmarked threads.

Honest-to-god, there is nothing that pisses me off more than people openly posting spoilers in an unmarked thread.

I suggest you guys edit those out, before I decide that jailing you would be the best way to fix them.

My apologies. I forgot all about the comic subsection. Feel free to move.

Finished Execute Program a while ago. Not too shabby. I've been spoiled by Granov's art though. Want more! not just the cover!

I've always been a fan of Bob Layton and Kevin Hopgood when it comes to drawing Iron Man

Adi Granov is way too slow to do a monthly book, It took like a year for those 6 Iron Man issues to come out.

Sorry Than, and thanks for the edit.

But to be a bit on the nitpicky side myself, that information is in the OP's post, so if you're aren't going to edit the thread title, you should edit his post for spoilers as well. Two wrongs don't make a right obviously, but if you're going to go off about spoilers and threatening warnings/jailings, you should at least make sure that it wasn't started from the OP before arbitrarily picking others down the line.

Yeah, I missed that. Could have had something to do with the amount I'd been drinking. Which also probably had something to do with why I didn't just edit them myself.
