We're trying to hang stuff up on our walls, but we can't get drywall anchors to work, the things that kinda look like this:
We can put them in the wall just fine, but when we go to put a screw into 'em, it just pushes the anchor through the drywall, and we're left with a big stupid looking hole in the wall, like so:
Anyone have any suggestions on what to do in this case? The studs just don't line up with where we need them to be to hang this shelf.
Here's the thing, we're trying to put up:
If someone knows of some product or technique out there that can attach stubborn or heavy things to a drywall wall better than your typical anchor/screw system, please let us know.

Ahh the beauty of cheap drywall. What you need to do is find a washer that fits around the drywall anchor, but doesn't let itslip all the way through. This will allow the force of you screwing in the screw to be distributed better. Find the largest outer diameter washer you can whose inner diameter is smaller than the lip of the drywall anchor. Of course this still may not be enough, so you can try epoxying the drywall anchor to the washer to prevent sliding. the shelf will be slightly off the wall but it's better than nothing.
