So what's going on with the collection of iced-gems in this game? I assume they're fractions of shattered stars or something; do we have to collect 100 of them to put together a star?

I think the second player can use them as ammo to shoot enemies, but there is probably more to it.

This could be the single greatest game yet created. It's so novel and twisted, yet looks fun in a way very similar to the 2D games--like this is what 3D Mario should have been in the first place. I'm looking forward to it more than Brawl or MGS4.

I've only just noticed that too.

Could this be the first time in a long time that power-ups are proper power-ups again and not just tools used to get the next star?

At first I thought that these crystal thingies had replaced coins, but rewatching the trailer, I noticed that there actually is coins in it. I'm just wondering what coins will be used for, because at a point an extra life is awarded when 50 crystals have been collected.

It looks like you can shoot the crystals in single player, too. There are a few times I've seen a single cursor shooting them in the trailer as opposed to there being two cursors on screen.

    Coins still refill life.

Which never really made sence to me, but then again mario doesn't have to make sence.

Maybe we'll actually get to use the coins as currency this time around.

Anyone else worried by the three section life-pizza? I hope you can make that bigger, although the guy that died in that demo video reapeared in the same place, so who knows what the point of that is now.

I think I saw a 4 section life-pizza at one point, so it's probably upgradable. And I imagine the death penalty is toned down for the E3 demo.

So do we know that Galaxy is going to retain the hub world, stage-revisiting formula of old, or are we just assuming it will?

I'd love to see that idea, you know, abandoned, in a mine, but I'll still love the game regardless.

Interesting. Looks like we might have collectables that don't just increase the number by their icon on the pause scren for once.

It sounds pretty likely to me. I'd rather have the missions (hopefully with some more varied objectives) than a linear set of levels, or a SMB3/SMW/NSMB style world map.

Considering how whacked out the levels are I can't begin to imagine how trippy the hub world will be. (assuming we haven't seen it already without knowing)

Then again, this is nintendo, so they could throw us a massive curve ball and come up with a completly different structure. Hell, I could imagine there just being a collossal single level of massive planets connected by tiny ones. That would be one hell of a free-roaming platformer.

I'd have to agree with Kor, the way you unlocked more places and found secret areas in Grunty's castle was really fun. I guess after seeing that, along with the castle in SM64, I was let down from the Hub world in sunshine.

The two hub worlds serve different purposes. The Banjo hub is more like a level in and of itself, where you just have to take breaks from it every now and then to do the other levels. the Sunshine hub is really just a hub.

Then let me more accurately say that I want a hub world that has a transition to the worlds I'm traveling too.

I do not want more magical portals (ala SM64 and SMS) than I know what to do with.

Yeah, it was cool teleporting to the first world in SMS with that wierd watery window thingy, but then doing it again for world 2, 3, 5, & 7... That kinda sucked...

(I know those aren't the accurate levels, just making a point)

I've got to admit, I'm not the biggest Mario fan. I mean, I've always liked the games, even loved a few, but as far as Nintendo's big three go (Metroid, Mario, Zelda) Mario has always been pretty far behind.
