Just Got a 360! Joy! Can't Get Live to Work! Boo!

Just bought an Xbox 360 and Gears of War. Excited to play the damn thing, I made a Gamertag on xbox.com (Talonrazer), buying 3 months of Gold, and then did the "recover gamertag" via the console. It moved onto the console find and I sign in and add a friend. I promptly get signed out. Now every time I try to sign in it disconnects me every thirty seconds. What the fuck is happening.

This is really annoying.

Because I made the Gamertag on the website and not the console. That's what the website said to do...

Can you get signed in at all? Could be a port forwarding type issue.

edit: as in, do you sign in and then get disconnected, or does it try to sign you in and then fail?

Does the Xbox Live test (in network settings) work? Also what router/modem are you using to connect?

All tests work. I now am having better luck. It stays connected on for longer periods of time.

However, now I cannot eject my stupid tray. I press the silver button on the silver tray, nothing. Supposedly something in Dashboard ejects it but all that does is play it. So now Gears of War is fucking stuck in my 360 and all the guys on IRC say to return it.

This fucking sucks.

Why... why didn't you just make the gamertag on your 360?

And was this a used/refurbished 360?

Most new 360 drives are 'sticky' as was mine, you might just need to play with the faceplate a bit, but it'll eventually eject.

Take the faceplate off, see if it ejects. If not then carefully take off the silver eject mechanism. It's hard to describe but it's just like a little lever that pushes in to a hole under the drive. Once removed, prod the hole with a pencil/pen.

Is it new? Or did you buy it pre-owned? I've heard (and seen) this type of thing happen with modded firmware.
