Problems with Xbox 360 media functions

TL;DR Something in WMP's DRM configuration is causing an error when I try to share my media library with my 360. How do I fix it?

360 get!

I've had this thing for a few hours and spent a lot of time fucking around with all its settings and features and such, basically having a big nerdgasm. However, the media capabilities of the 360 are eluding me, and I'm pretty sure the problem is my PC.

I'm running Windows XP SP2 and have just recently finished installing all the updates from Windows Update, un- and reinstalling Windows Media Player 11 and the Zune media software. No matter what I do, I can't get the 360 to connect to my PC and use the shared media library stuff.

When I go to share my library in either WMP11 or Zune the software detects the 360 on my network and I click the 'allow' button. The 360 icon gets a nice green check mark, indicating that everything is ready to rock. Or is it? On the 360 side of the configuration, I go to the Media blade, select Pictures, select 'Yes, continue' when asked if I've configured my computer to interoperate with the 360 and then get an error. The 360 fails on the 'PC Selected' step of the media connection test.

The troubleshooting details are at once simplistic and arcane. Luckily I've been ass-deep in network configuration stuff for as long as I can remember, so I have no trouble following Microsoft's suggestions. Since you're reading this, you can probably guess that they failed.

The only indication that I can find that there's a problem is this in my Event Viewer:
A new media server was not initialized because WMCreateDeviceRegistration() encountered error '0xc00d2711'. The Windows Media DRM components on your computer might be corrupted. Verify that protected files play correctly in Windows Media Player, and then restart the WMPNetworkSvc service.

Seems pretty descriptive for a Windows error, doesn't it? It's too good to be true unfortunately, as searching for the error code in Microsoft's Knowledge Base and on Google yields only some ancient (WMP9-era) articles on how to fix the error, which all boil down to reinstalling WMP. Trying for a more direct fix, I search around Microsoft's site and didn't mange to find anything in the way of DRM-related installation files that relate to Windows Media Extender-type devices. I did find an installer that does something with DRM for portable devices (I remember linking customers to it when I worked for Amazon's Unbox support) but that didn't seem to have any effect.

Since the Event Viewer log is the only clue I have, and because it suggests that certain files are corrupt, and because Microsoft doesn't seem to provide new files for fixing this problem, the only solution I can see to this problem is to do an in-place upgrade/repair install of my XP. This seems like a very heavy-handed solution to what should be a more delicately-fixable problem.

Have you fallen asleep yet reading my long tale of woe? Lend me your advices!

edit: I forgot this part, but now that I'm spelling everything out I remembered at last. In WMP11 I can't add pictures to the library. WMP ignores them when I drag them to the library window or add their folder to the library directly. Could be a symptom of the overall problem, I don't know.

    You're boned! Feel better?

...just kidding. I had a similar kind of problem getting media to stream properly...I tried a bazillion different solutions and couldn't figure out what the hell was going wrong. I ended up d/ling Network Magic, though, and that seemed to fix things up just fine.

Mine started messing up when I installed my Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector.

Can anyone find me a solution as well?
