So. In high school I never really planned on going to college. I only completed graduation requirements, not transfer. Now two years out of high school, after culinary school, I decide that I would rather take my life into business and finances.
I am currently beginning on transfer credits at my local community college. Sometime in 2008, I will move up to San Luis Obispo to live and attend their community college. While there, I hope to obtain an A.A. in Business Administration. After I get my 60 transfer credits, as CalPolySLO does not admit under-class transfers, I will attempt to get in their business school. I hear they accept about 40% of people that apply so I will probably need to pick an extra curricular activity to pad my application.
At their business school I will hopefully obtain an undergrad degree in Business Admin with a "concentration" on accounting and a minor is statistics.
After, I will enter the workforce while slowly accruing credits for an MBA through whatever college I happen to live by.
So after my boring life story, my questions.
What are some extra curricular activities that would benefit getting accepted into a business program?
Am I overloading myself in Business Admin(AA, BS, MBA) in this plan? I heard somewhere that MBA programs look down on prior business experience and would prefer another financial major. Is there merit to this?
Finally- Aside from working at my part time data-entry job for an accountant, and trying to keep my GPA up, what are things I can do in the short term to help benefit myself later down the road with career aspirations of CPA/CMA accreditation or completing Actuarial Science exams for work as an actuary?
(please leave out criticisms of career choices, but do not be afraid of adding in other options.)
