Skype?

So, I use Skype to talk to a friend in Canada. I'm in the US. I am having issues with their skypeout service. Mainly, connectivity issues, static background noise, robotic voice, dropped calls, etc. When I use Skype to Skype the calls are very clear and stable. But whenever I call a landline or mobile with Skypeout, I have issues. Their support hasn't been really useful, I've put in many tickets and have exhausted their troubleshooting. They pretty much say at this point "sorry! you're SOL, lawls"

I've opened up the correct port on my router to route tcp/udp traffic to the port on the Skype client itself. I've tested my hardware too (headset, mic) etc and the problem doesn't seem to lie there either. Anyone who uses Skype have any suggestions?

I'm using winxp sp2, basic mic and headphones. Linksys wrt54gs router, with dd-wrt firmware installed. Linksys wireless adapter as well.

Dunno. Always works fine for me, no router tweaks required. It could have to do with your internet connection, or where you're trying to call. But I think you can rule the router out, since Skype will work under some very adverse router conditions.

Have you checked with your ISP? IIRC, there have been cases of shady ISPs interfering with Skype and other internet to phone services if they are offering their own internet phone service. In other words, they'd screwing with your options hoping you'll pay for theirs. Go to dslreports and find the forum for your provider. If it is ISP related, you might find more information there.

My ISP is Comcast. I'll check out the site and see what I can find.
