Zelda Four Swords

So, i've started buying up Gamecube games for my wii.. so far gotten Zelda Wind Waker (plus Master Quest) and Mario Sunshine. Today I popped in CEX and noticed Zelda Four Swords, it looked interesting in that it appeared to be old style 2d zelda.. however, it mentions some sort of link capability with a GBA. (I also have a DS)

I've heard that a lot of addons for the GC you can't use with the Wii, does anyone who owns this confirm whether it works ok with the Wii/DS for connectivity?

I've played Four Swords on the Wii but with the connection going to two GBAs and it's worked fine. I haven't tried it with my DS.

Resounding no. The GBA has a particular port (not the cart slot) that the connection cable goes into. It will work with the Wii though; I was playing Crystal Chronicles with friends on it.

Damn, can it be played without a GBA? And if so what do you miss out on?

Multiplayer requires GBAs, but you can play singleplayer fine with just a Gamecube controller.

Cool, so you don't miss out on anything without a GBA if you do single player?

All the people I know (locally) aren't into Zelda so I doubt the multiplayer aspect would be used.

You're missing out on a mighty fun semi-co-op multiplayer without a GBA.

Edit: I might add, you can pick up GBAs used for pretty cheap if you look around. Just don't get the Micro, because that is also missing the little port.

basically the GBAs allow you to play the single-player game with up to 4 people co-op/vs mode. It's really up to you and your friends whether it's co-op or vs because you can turn on them at any moment, but may also need them to advance. :D It's tons of fun, and I suggest trying to get enough GBAs together to do it.

regular GBAs are pretty cheap, SP's slightly more expensive, but rechargeable batteries and backlight are so worth it.

Micro's are absolutely wonderful, except worthless to GC connectivity because they took out that port so it can be that small. :( I would have bought one at release if it had that port.

I do wish they'd make some patch to allow the DS to control GBA connection GC games on the Wii though. It would really be nice for backwards compatibility in the future when the DS takes over the world.

All I can say, is this game causes unneeded competition between friends.

You'll grow to hate each other if you play this game, and even being nice won't save you from being voted the least helpful in the end.

Also, fuck the boomerang and bottomless pits.

I think I've actually heard some guy that managed to hack in a port for the Micro, so you could go that route .

This is half the fun of the game. Taking chalice duty so you can screw everyone over, heheh.
Edit: I should clarify I'm talking about FF: CC, not FSA. FSA is also good times though.

On many occassions this game's multiplayer led to physical violence in my apartment.

It's even more appalling because there's absolutely no logical reason for the competition. You're competing for force gems. Who the fuck wants a force gem? You can't spend them on anything. They're not the shattered remnants of the Triforce. Playing this game with friends really makes you appreciate how the conflict in the middle east can sustain itself for so long.

No one wants to come in last at the end of the stage. So everyone wants to be the one to use keys and hey, you were nearly dead and so close to that pit I couldn't resist dumping you for your sweet, sweet gems.

That's also why we make secret alliances to agree on who we should always vote as the most annoying player.

This is exactly why this game is more sinister than FF:CC, the other four player GBA->GCN game of much betrayal. In that game, you might actually gain something from dicking your friends over. This game? Absolutely nothing.
