360 Elite Questions

Are the 360 Elites having the same problems as the normal 360's? Ring of death and such. Does anyone have any horror stories abou the Elite; something that might make me rethink purchasing the Elite?

Went back 11 pages and didn't see another thread on this.

It has the same problems because it's the same old hardware as of now.

It has the same problems that are covered under the same 3 year warranty.

Yup, same problems. I don't really see why you'd need 120 GBs, especially with the price difference, but if think you'll use the space, go for it. Personally, I'd go for the premium and get another game instead, but whatever.

There is a different way of attatching the GPU to the board on the Elite. This is supposed to alleviate the issue. It does NOT include the new heatsinks. I've had my Elite since it launched and it's run rock-solid for me, as opposed to my old box that would freeze and crash pretty often. The motherboard on the Elite is also pretty different. Smaller components, etc.

    You should be fine.

I have not heard anyone having the red ring issue on an Elite.

The system should be fine as long as you keep it in a well ventilated area, right? Maybe buy a little fan for it.

The HDMI port is a big selling point too (for me anyway)

    That's incorrect.

The Elites benefit from changes that significantly reduce the effect of heat-induced warping, namely the red ring of death.

Basically, the steps they talked about in their 3 year warranty press release are all implemented in the Elite.

If you have Final Fantasy XI, Elder Scrolls: Shivering Isles or any other large drive-hogging content, the 120 GB is a Godsend. I've got 60 GB free on mine.

The BX here got some in and I'm thinking of putting one on layaway. They don't have the premium, just the elite. I just want to make sure it's not as twitchy as the core and premium.

Yeah, I've been thinking about this. I don't have a fancy TV yet, but would it be worth it to get the elite now in case I do get an HDMI capable TV? There's this deal at circuit city where you get Gears plus an extra controller and a battery pack for 529, and the same stuff to get with the elite would be about 610. Is that worth it?

If you are planning on upgrading your TV in the next year and if you expect you will be downloading lots of content, then its worth it

Thanks for the help. It will be a busy Chrsitmas now; killing mall infesting zombies, blowing shit up in Halo 3and Ace Combat 6, and running over pedestrians in GTA 4. Plus, I'll be part of the Wii60 club!

    Thanks again.

Actually, I'm pretty sure they've made some big differences in what is in the Elite as opposed to older 360s.
Go to Ben Heck and he cracks open an Elite and compares the parts. Their a bit different, including a new cooling system...

Actually the fix is in on elites and the other two models as well. All new 360s and those being returned from repair centers have a suite of fixes the most obvious of which is the added heat sink.

It's $480 for the Elite with a 120gb hard drive. Were you to buy a Premium and decide later you need the extra HD space, the 120gb hard drive alone is $180. Buying the Elite you're saving $100 and you get the HDMI port. I <3 my Elite.
