I have a personal Ventrilo server with my friends where we like to mess around and sometimes play music through it. After watching some of the "Ventrilo Harassment" videos I started to wonder how (if the videos are real that is) someone would manage to not only record voices off the server but apply effects to them so quickly and play them back. I also wondered how he would go about this without picking up the voices of everyone else when he used "push to talk".
As far as having a separate output goes, I wager a person could possibly use a laptop in tandem and plug its output to the microphone jack of the computer connected to the server. I guess they could send samples they've recorded fast enough off the server and send them back to their laptop through a network or something, that functionality isn't necessarily too important to me. What bugs me about this approach is that a laptop (that I do not have) is needed.
Is there a software solution to possibly create a new "input" on XP that takes only sound output through a special program, kind of like an audio sandbox? Or perhaps some sort of driver set that creates a false output device that I can assign a program to? Any other ideas for this kind of "DJing" would be appreciated.
