Well, after learning that my new graphics card and the XP compatability mode don't really play nice I spent the past few weeks getting everything working again. During a lot of my downtime the past week I've been going through the Let's Play archive,
http://www.letsplayarchive.com/ including the hilarious one on RE 4 and the humorous, if a bit whiny, video playthrough of Super Metroid. They also happend to have an interesting one on Master of Orion 2. This got me thinking, well, if those Goons can handle the awesomeness of LP threads, why can't this place? It took me a bit of figuring of what game to do, but since I don't have a working capture card I knew it would have to be a PC game, and I couldn't think of a better one than MoO, the original. I'm not the world's best player but I have been playing it for a very long time and know quite a few interesting tricks.
So here is the deal, fellow forumites. What say you? I think it could be fairly interesting. I was planning on doing a pretty lesuirely run through on average with a fairly big galaxy and a lot of opponents. I was thinking Psilons but would be open to running every race. It could be fun though as I could take user suggestions for planet and ship names and how to respond to various threats/actions by the races. I'll gauge various opinions before actually starting it.
I probably should have checked before starting this thread how well printscreen works with my solution to playing the game, but if it doesn't I'll think of something else. Thanks for your time.

The original is a fucking treat. MoO2 is a classic in its own right, but there is something really special about the first one. I fully intend to outline some basic facts about MoO before starting this project, so stay tuned.
Double Research Points. Everyone has the same access to slightly different tech trees. This overall makes them the easiest class in MoO to learn.
I find it pretty much equals a -1 to difficulty level. They are easily one of the top three biggest threats if the PC controls them, though depending on how the galaxy looks/which leader personality they have they can be your biggest ally.
I'll do a pretty big OP explaining how the various races work in this game. Overall though, the races in MoO play exactly like they do in MoO 2. The Psilons and Meklons got slight nerfs while the Sakkara and Klackons, already top tier races, got a bit stronger.
Psilons are still the best race to learn on in MoO2 because you are guaranteed access to all techs.
Dos Box is better than I hoped for this. Not only am I hearing this music (albeit very crappy) for the first time in over a decade, but I can get screenshots, .wav, and movies from this. Excellent.
