okay, i'm running a geforce 7800GS AGP card. love it, great card, performance is great, temps are fine, etc etc. Trouble is.. it is LOUD. It has a massive heatsink and fan on it, which is somehow joined without visible screws. I've just invested in a case full of acoustic dampening foam and even that hasn't stopped the racket. Is there anything i can do to stop this, or at least calm it down? I don't have a floppy drive, I really don't want to change the card's bios settings to make the fan spin slower..because i don't feel confident knowing what to change etc.
Does anyone have any experience with this or similar cards?
please help H/A!!
I believe in angels, not the kind with wings, no...not the kind with halos, the kind who bring you home
With SOME cards you can set the fan to spin at various percentages based on temp, it takes a lot of tweeking, but i got my rawring x1950pro to be pretty much silent went running idle and only rawr when it was required.
edit : I'm not finding any "fan control" settings like the wiki says i should... could this be because it's an Nvidia card and not an ATI one? evertything else shows up, but no fan control :S

I have the exact same card and the exact same problem. I could use a solution too!
You could try rivatuner or ntune.. Not tried either myself as I am also an ATI man, and use ATITool for sweet sweet silence.
Keep looking, its totally worth it when you get it working.
I tried rivatuner earlier, i can set "driver level fan control" but it won't let me change the settings for the actual card. The walkthroughs say "click on system settings" but i only have access to "low level system settings" which does me no good as it doesn't have fan speeds. Is this because of the card ?
I've tried configuring the driver level fan control speeds but that hasn't changed a thing.
confusion reigns supreme!
i shall persevere.... anymore input is of course welcome. Thanks for the help so far.
edit: is it normal that the ntune thing takes over 10 minutes to load? i clicked it and my pc basically crashed, then 10 minutes almost exactly later it suddenly appeared
edit 2 : Ok... Ntune won't let me change the fan except for during 3d. I don't care how much noise it makes when i'm playing games, it's just 2D fan speeds i need to change... this is doing my head in!
