The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
From what I've heard, it might actually be an OXM exclusive.
It's always good to have something to read on the can, though, (for when your DS battery dies, of course.)
I actually just got myself an OXM subscription ($25 bucks for a year, versus $10 a pop at the newstand, and I generally find myself buying three or more per year, anyway) and I double checked my subscription, which states that my first issue will be the september one. SO, I have to wait to play the demo, but I will indeed be playing it.
I have a European and Japanese account. I live in New York City.
Well that's cheating. I have an NA account because I live in NA and those demos have not been released in NA specifically because OXM (an NA mag) bought the rights.

You have a point.
But so does Ranced. You can go download those demos by "cheating." And I recommend you do. Because Eternal Sonata is fucking glorious (nless you already paid $8.99 for the OXM with the demo). Anyway, it's not like you're cheating on a significant other, unless you have a really disturbing relationship with Microsoft Corporation that I really don't want to know about.
Dudes, if you want to break the rules, go ahead and do it, but don't pretend it's magically "okay".
It is like filesharing, if you're going to do that stuff, at least don't try to rationalize that you aren't doing anything wrong. Accept the fact that, while you may not physically be taking anything away from anyone else, some one somewhere paid good money to havethe rights to something, and you are making what they paid for less valuable by circumventing the system.
Well I hope the Katamari demo shows up on one of the marketplaces because theres no way i'll give them my money for some crappy magazine where 1 page out of 3 is an ad.

I wonder how the idea of just buying the magazine for the demo disk affects their profit model. There are so many ads because they aren't selling a magazine to you, they're selling you to advertisers. If you never actually look inside the magazine, the advertisers aren't getting what they paid for.

Since when is opening an account in a different region against any rules?

I never said it was "magically okay," I said I don't care. And I don't. And I won't. Ever. Not about downloading a demo that OXM paid exclusivity rights for. In fact, I think it's arguably more moral to stomp on digital exclusivity as much as possible. But, really, I'm not taking a stand or anything when I jump on my Japanese account to download a demo only available in that region, I'm just doing it because I want the demo and the morality of the situation is completely unimportant to me.

So by Evander's logic, if I buy the magazine and never look inside it I'm cheating the advertiser out of what they paid for? Therefore I'm in the wrong?
I have 0 qualms about making a regional account to get the demos that are exclusive in NA.
A demo is not a product you pay for. It's a promotionnal tool to convince you to buy their full product. Are you charged to download a new PC game demo? Are you charged to play de demo version of XBLA titles?
No.
When you buy OXM you aren't paying for the demo. You're paying for the crappy magazine filled with ads. If i think their magazine is crappy (and it is, you could almost say it's a fact) and the demo is available elsewhere for free. I'll get it for free. It's a demo. Demos are free.

Huh?
I never said ANYTHING like that.
When you pay for the magazine, you get to do whatever the hell you want with it. You never made an agreement to read it.

I was just responding to your rationalization that "it's not like cheating on a significant other."
There are "immoral" actions thatI undertake that I can't mention the specifics of here, but needless to say, I know EXACTLY what I'm doing, and don't deny any of the implications of it. Of course, that doesn't stop me from doing it either .

Did you bother to read the agreement that you confirmed when signing up for the other region accounts?
It's not legally binding, of course, but you still confirmed it.

Except that this is hardly "immoral", Evander. You are significantly overreacting and making a fool of yourself.

Well, one of the things that they do is add extra content on the discs, like exclusive gamer pics, that can only be unlocked once you've viewed all of the ads on the disc.
But I think, overall, that Advertisers know exactly what they're getting when they advertise in the magazine. No one is stopping to read the ads in ANY magazine, but the advertising model isn't geared towards that, it's geared towards inundating you with images of their particular product until it gets lodged in your mind.

So, any impressions yet?
Drez is the one who used the word immoral to describe it.
Look, I'm not saying don't do it; hell the only reason I haven't done it yet myself is that I'm lazy and currently I don't have my 360 online because I have no ethernet in the room it's in, and I refuse to spend more than fifty bucks (and preferably 20-30) to get a wireless adapter for it.
Iwas just responding to the idea that it is smehow "more okay" to do it because you're doing it against a corporation instead of a person.

So then what does "magically okay" mean if not "moral" given the context? Especially considering The Spaniard used the verb "cheating" which suggests immorality?
Maybe nobody explicitly used the word "immoral" before I did but let's not be dense, mmkay?

The added graphics horsepower actually REALLY improves the game. It's almost utterly surreal.
