My video card is going nuts. Help!

So, whenever I play anything even remotely graphic intensive, the fan on my video card (xt1900xtx) goes into overdrive and I get a message saying my card is operating too hot and it's downing the clock speed. My computer is well ventilated in a A/C'd room. Any ideas? Is there a setting somewhere to make it chill out?

Open your case and check for dust.

I have the same card and was getting lots of errors on more graphic intensive games. I turned off VPU recover and put a PCI slot fan underneath it. Things have been going fine since.

I have an ATI Radeon x1050 Catalyst that lets me play cheap 2d games, but after 5 minutes of playing, the computer will crash to about 5 Frames Per Second (one game has an FPS counter.) Sometimes quitting the game gets the speed back up, but mostly the computer remains slow for another minute or two. One time the slowdown was so bad that it remained after a computer restart. I removed and uninstaller the card, but does anyone have suggestions for it?

    (Never buying an ATI again.)

Take off the plastic cover for the g/card heatsink and check there :)

There was some dust on the heatsink. Hopefully removing that helps...

That did it. Didn't even look like THAT much dust. Thanks!

Hmm. I just bought a x1950xt because my 1900gt kept overheating and I didn't feel like sending it in and not having a computer. Maybe I should try that.

As for the guy who gets the slow down... never heard of the hardware side of a video card causing that. Check your drivers recently? May also be having memory issues.

Direct X 10, updated ATI drivers, tried Omega drivers at one point. Got a new hard drive, added a Gig of RAM. I'm at the end of my rope. I should have gotten the more expensive Nvidia card. :|
