You know, as far as controls go that XBox mockup is actually pretty good. The analog nub having a ring of buttons around it, and the mini trackball on the other side would probably work pretty well. It could stand to ditch the keyboard and the like 16:4 aspect ratio for the screen, but otherwise I could actually see something like that working.
I can't find my finished design, but I made mine with MS Paint.
I had arrows indicating that the screen slid up (not turning like the Sidekick) and could fold back with notation about me not being good enough with MS Paint to widen it and add buttons (I wanted six face buttons for arcade fighters). My notation also mentioned that I don't think it would have an analog thumbstick as shown because that wouldn't be "pocketable." The "GBA" thing was just me hinting at Nintendo's obsolete "third pilliar" philosophy and the GBA Wireless Adapter seemed like it may have been a part of it. I described folding it over tent-style as a "battleship-type" screen for two players using their GBAs as their private screens/input. The andanced graphical hardware and specifications of the DS would often be controlled/used by way the GBA.
In the finished one, I had erased the original scroll wheel on the right.
Considering that nothing I saw even remotely looked like a DS, I say I was pretty close. The only information I had was that it would have two screens!
I'm going to be lazy and repost an old one of mine.
Behold! The long awaited Xbox portable:
The Xbag!
I see it features the duke, maybe because the duke is the only controller large enough to have a screen in it.
Window/portal is more like it. Fire escape? Maybe. Or a life raft.
I liked that it was the only next-gen console with a six-button layout, even if it was vertical and your thumb would push the right analog stick if you used the X + A buttons. The S-Controller revision worsened the suitability of the XBOX controller for 6-button arcade fighters, but it was just so much more sane. It remained the only next-gen controller with controller-base I/O like the N64, but I guess the N64 controller was just too flexible to ever be topped as far as application goes (six face buttons that can double as two primary + second set of axes before dual analog = WIN).
But the swivel & shift version doesn't add the problem of duplicate buttons.
Only real problem is that it's still Apple White, and I kinda doubt that will still be popular industrial design by the next handheld generation.

The buttons and d-pad above the screen? That's horrible.

Do that design with the buttons and d-pad below the screen and I think it would work pretty well, assuming it is balanced well. I couldn't see how it would work until I really thought about the DS compatability mode, which might really do it.

Well, maybe its just me and my pathetic laptop. But you shall not mock it!
-Hugs laptop and runs to a corner.
yeah, no-one ever seems to mention that, but it always kinda worried me, too.
I hope the scammer didn't have him assassinated.
Also, the Xbox portable would need black and white buttons wouldn't it?
*re-reads*
With enough talent and dedication you could shoehorn anything onto the GBA.. Remember Metal Gear?

Even if his post breaks the H-scroll, all the other posts are fine. I wish people would stop whining so much about it.
What, what is sweet looking about that retarded aspect ratio?

All proportions are accurate.
Maybe if they'd settle for something less than an 18" CRT display.
There's a reason us Nintendo fans look happy.
Huh. And I thought plumbers weren't supposed to plug up drains.
I'll buy that for a dollar.
They tried to send him a virus, D.O.S atacked his site, and then he was never heard from again... yeah something went horribly wrong here.
I think it's pretty sweet actually.

Our sources say: No way! But still damn cool!
I still think it's the best looking PS3 yet.
