So logitech unvelied 2 new "gaming" products. the G9 gaming mouse:
The G9 has a 3200dpi laser engine, wired, adjustable weights, changable grips, and 2 side buttons.
And the hugely re-designed G15 Keyboard
The G15 drops 12 of the 18 macro buttons, still leaving the M1, M2, M3 for 18 total macros.
Now, I think both are ugly as fuck. the G15 is okay I guess, I just don't like the style, and I like on the old G15 the ability to close the LCD screen.
The G9 looks like some peice of engineering shit that is a beta product for testing.
Also, why didn't the call the keyboard the G16 or something. its so much of a re-design, it's not really the same product anymore.
EDIT: totally forgot how to do image tags, my bad.

The keyboard, I actually like. If only I had a desk big enough to use it.
Also, wtf did they do to the G15? It looks horrible and even less useful then my spiffy older model.
The mouse looks pretty ugly, but if it has changeable grips I guess it will be possible to change the looks of it somewhat, will have to wait and see what happens with that, I guess.

according to Elecronista:
"Logitech has also revealed an updated version of the G15 keyboard. The revamp provides a sleeker style in line with Logitech's most recent peripherals and fixes the in-game information LCD in place rather than operating it on a hinge. In exchange, the new G15 gains a two-port USB hub, a detachable palm rest, and a Game Mode toggle that disables the Windows key to prevent accidental task switches in the middle of play."
But I have to question their know-how when they say the new G15 gains anything but a detachable palm rest. The old one had all those features.
Point is, it's keeping the USB hub, so it is A-OK.
I actually would prefer the integrated LCD if it actually has illuminated text instead of a backlight, as pictured. The hinge system didn't work as well for me when I got a keyboard drawer. Dropping macro keys... probably not a bad idea to get the footprint down to a reasonable size.
So, yeah, this goes directly to my Christmas list.
The mouse = meh. I still haven't found anything better than the MX518. I've tried the G5, and all that did was make it much harder to map the MOUSE3 button and force me to lower my mouse sensitivity. I personally didn't find using a hand-held laser beam any more precise than the 1200 dpi optical.
You are correct. I threw mine out the day I bought it and never looked back.
The more I read the Electronista article, the more I believe they just pasted in the old G15 features. Nice freakin' journalism, guys.
So there might be a chance there is no USB hub on the redesign. If that's the case, it's a dealbreaker for me.
Not to usurp your OP thunder, but your original article can be found here: at the inquirer. Never hurts to site your sources.
Actually...
Old one already has the palm rest, it already has the toggle to disable the Window's key, and if "two port USB hub" just means it has 2 USB ports... well it has those two. So... NOTHING on that list is new. So what the hell ARE they adding to it? Looks like they're just taking away the hinged LCD screen, 12 macro buttons, and changing the light to red.
Whoop di do.
Losing 12 out of 18 of the major draw (the LCD is completely useless) of a product is not a redesign, it's a screwup waiting to happen.
I'm using an MX518 right now. I love it. I can't see ever giving it up for Logitech's "zomg butunz an shiny things r evrryware lawlz" design philosophy of late.
I agree. I need a keyboard with a USB hub and backlit keys that can record macros but without the useless LCD.
Behold! The Logitech G11 Gaming Keyboard
Really? The USB ports on my G15 can't read my thumb drives, so I've given up hope on them. I don't think they're USB 2.0.
Pfft. I use my LCD more than anything else on my computer. I have it on to show time while I'm playing games that don't have a clock feature. Or doing homework with the monitor off.
I have it tell me the song titles of songs I have playing if I make a giant playlist, so if I like a song I can write it down. Also, on WoW, it would notify your DPS and other stats, along with messages from other players. So if I alt-tabbed, I could see if someone messaged me, or I can see how many slots I have left in my bag.
I would only buy a gamer mouse on sale, otherwise the extra features are not worth the premium price.
They are definitely USB 2.0, but are still limited to a max power draw of 500 mA. Maybe you have too much hooked up to them? I haven't had any problem getting a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 1 Gb and a Logitech MX518 mouse going at the same time.
I've also read some reports that people have gotten the "not enough power" warning from windows even though there is enough. This should be fixed with the latest driver download.
Could be busted, though.
Also, the LCD clock? Absolute aces. That single feature has allowed me to get more sleep than anything else on the planet.
I wouldn't buy this keyboard over the old one.
