Did anyone else ever beat The Immortal on the NES? It actually wasn't too hard to do once you figured everything out. The hard part was figuring out how to do everything you see in that video. If you messed up once during that whole battle with the dragon and the other wizard, you got fried.

I loved the music to that game.
OH. I just amazoned the Genesis version last month. It's visually soooo fucking beautiful. It trashed me when I rented it as a kid but it's like... some kind of vexing crack.

I haven't given it a good playthrough since it came in the mail.

Yeah, it's mostly memorization though. There are a few good walkthroughs online.

And soooo bloody. Was the NES version bloody? Did Sega do what nintenwouldn't?

That... actually looks easy to me. Other than the part with 3 rapid fire spinners, it seemed pretty tame.

Jumpin' Jack Flash was FAR more crueler with its note placement, especially during the 3rd part.

I'll take tapping buttons in line across the screen over a pattern deviously designed to actively fuck with your mind any day (3:35 on the video to be exact).

oh Psh, that's not that bad at all. I've S ranked Ready steady go , jumping jack flash, and then Sekai(the final song from the new ouendan).

Getting all 300s is impressive, as I haven't ever cared enough to try to do that, but just getting an S rank isn't amazingly impressive.

Slowbeef did a Let's Play of one version of that game. Hell indeed.

Although I think he was being stupid with the "worm under tiles" level. You get specific instructions on how to move in that room, all you have to do is die once for each direction to know how far that way you should go. Or, use the worm detector, but that seems iffy.

The Genesis version was definitely more graphic with the deaths than the NES game. When I was younger, I did find the NES deaths to be a bit disturbing at the time. I didn't get to play the Genesis version too much, though -- I just remembered that you really make those goblins die bloody deaths in that version.

Meh, Triti is far easier on the Wii (on the DS, after pulling out the spikes, you had to use the scalpel to cut the three corners of every thing you removed).

Ready Steady Go is a lot harsher with the health.

Well, if you're shooting for an ALL 300, you should never be in the red anyway.

RSG and JJF are about the same to ALL 300 difficulty-wise. JJF's note placement might make it just a tad harder. Sekai has about 33% more markers than either of them.

Ouendan and EBA are pretty easy as far as rhythm games go. If you want something in the genre that's Nintendo hard, try either Beatmania IIDX, In The Groove, or Pump It Up.

Challenge of the Gods in God of War. I was so close to beating it the first time, but a bee landed on me and I flipped out. After that I had such a hard time with it.

Challenge of the Gods doesn't hold a candle to the very last battle on God Mode of the regular story mode.

I have simply thrown up my hands and said 'fuck this' to the last battle. I can run through the rest of the game without problem now, but that last level is all that's kept me from winning a bet.

The entire shmup genre is pretty hard, but either I suck at G Darius or it's a good deal more difficult than your average horizontal shmup. Some of the bosses, while awesome, are completely ridiculous. I doubt I'll ever 1CC it.

People mentioning Trauma Center's X missions made me go to gamefaqs and see what they said to do on X1 (I usually don't do this, but fuck, I've tried it like 4365 times). The X Operation guide was useless and basically said "Kill the kyriaki without letting your patient die!" but one of the other FAQs actually gave some okay advice. We'll see.

You know, this gets linked every time we have a "hard game" or "tough boss" thread, but Imperishable Night's extra stage really wasn't that hard. Perfect Cherry Blossom's extra stages are much worse in my opinion, especially Yukari. IN's extra stage is the only one in the series that I've beaten, though admittedly it took a lot of effort.

It took me all of a 3-day weekend to clear and S-rank every level in Trauma Center DS. Although, I must confess to sort of cheating for the S-ranks in later levels. I'm left-handed, so I could just use my right thumb to pause the game whenever I wanted to take some extra time to focus.

Didn't have a problem with the speed bikes in Battletoads, either. But fuck that level in the pipes with those gears that chase you. Never could beat it.

People in this thread are overstating the difficulty of EBA/Ouendan. Unless you're trying to all-300 things (which is usually way too difficult for me), the games aren't that hard for the most part. I've S ranked almost every song in EBA and Ouendan 2, across all difficulties, though admittedly I still have a lot of work to on O2's hidden mode.

Man, pausing the game to think isn't cheating.

Cheating is writing down the solutions to TC's puzzle levels after taking forever to figure them out, then doing them again instantly to get S ranks. Uh, not that I'd ever do such a thing.

I think it is in this case. Being able to rest your hand on the pause button basically gives you the same advantages of using two stylii without really having to work for it.

Hmm, I didn't think of that. I guess you could pause the game, move you stylus into position over whatever tool you were going to use next, then unpause it. I can see why you'd consider that cheap.

The X Missions definitely qualify as "nintendo hard" in my book. Or at least X1 does, I suck too much to reach any of the other ones.

I dislike the term "Nintendo hard" anyway. I get that it's referring to the NES, which had a lot of difficult games, but still. Nintendo's main franchises have been really easy for a while now.

In the DS version you have to scalpel each membrane before you can remove it.

They changed Triti in the Wii version. You don't need to cut the membranes anymore, but when talking with someone else (who had beaten the DS version thoroughly) while we were both trying to XS the X-Missions, he said that Triti on the Wii multiplies more aggressively than on the DS.

Never played the DS version myself so I don't know.
