PS3 UT3 M/KB Support Officially Confirmed, Possible Cross Platform
I checked with Steve Polge and he said that YES we are supporting keyboard and mouse in Unreal Tournament 3 on PS3. He is confident we are doing it in a way that will be balanced without feeling "gimped" for either side. We'll also allow people to choose whether or not they want to allow mixed controller vs. keyboard/mouse games or not.
Wasn't sure if this has been mentioned here yet or not. I know there were alot of rumours floating around G&T about M/KB support in UT3 on the PS3 ... it's now been officially confirmed.
Not only that, it also appears that there may be a very real possibility of cross platform play between PS3 and PC players although this "Has not been decided yet".
I simply cannot wait for UT3 on PS3. I wonder though, it IS an UE3 game...I thought the PS3 was allergic to it and couldn't work right at all with it. not because it's too powerful, but simply because it just wasn't designed with the pS3 in mind?
When they say keyboard/mouse won't "feel" gimped, what they mean is that they'll nerf it in ways that you're less likely to notice.
I wish they wouldn't do this TBH, though I'm getting UT3 on PC. If you're making a console shooter you should commit to console controls. This sort of thing just splits the online community into halves.
Without being gimped? So it's not gonna be straight up regular M/KB? I've heard bad things about stuff ported from the 360 - like the mouse being slugish and... if they don't mix the servers - or maybe make it optional to be mixed or not they hopefully won't change it.

Do you mean the Shadowrun-port for pc? There they "nerfed" the mouse to balance it out against gamepad-users.
forgive my noobness but being relatively new to the ps3 camp will just any usb kb/mouse combo work or are they talking about a special "controller" for the ps3 that will be a kb/mouse combo (but only using 1 usb port or something)

I still wonder about the controller controls for UT3. How many weapons will you be able to carry at once? I thought the first Unreal Championship on the Xbox was poor because of that. They devoted 2 buttons to weapon switching 1 button to switch forwards and another button to switch backwards. Will you still be able to dodge, double jump, wall jump?
I think that the Unreal Championship 2 was a great solution for all of these control issues, as well as maintaining the Unreal agility intact.

Unreal Tournament has always been my top 'arena' shooter. I'm glad a lot of console owners new to the franchise will get to see what all the excitement is about. Non-stop explosions, flak bouncing off every wall, grenades lofting by, hahaha. Good times.
