Ubisoft puts women in their place. DS style!

No, this isn't some rib against the Frag Dolls, they're good people.

But whoa HUH?!
“Ubisoft is excited to finally offer young girls a line of games that give them the chance to explore their hobbies and interests in interactive and creative experiences,” said Helene Juguet, senior director of marketing at Ubisoft. “Our consumer research revealed that the young girls’ market has been relatively overlooked. We are happy to introduce a variety of titles relevant to what girls in this age group have indicated they are most interested in.”

For everyone who didn't read the press release, notice that there are also Imagine: Figure Skater, Babyz, Animal Doctor, and Master Chef.

Press release can be seen right here: http://www.ubi.com/US/News/Info.aspx?nId=4662

I'm absolutely loving seeing the Video Game market expanding seemingly every week and I love fashion design and cooking, but for some reason I doubt making babies is for me. Maybe i'll buy it for my girlfriend.

Of course you know what happens when you imply baby making with your girlfriend... :winky:

...doghouse for a week.

This is the E.T. for the Atari of our time. With this, the DS will attract media attention, get panned across the board for the latent sexism, and Nintendo will discontinue the DS out of shame. So it has been foretold, so it shall happen.

I don't think any of these games appeal to me right now.

If they were to come out with Imagine Shoe Shopping and Imagine Purse Shopping, I'd be at Gamestop right now and they're not even open.

I understand that Ubisoft is basically using the 1950s idea of what young girls should be doing in their spare time (that is, practicing to be housewives).

I was making a funny. Chill out. (And make me a pie.)

Seriously, this is an outrage. Ubisoft should take a look at real life toys, like easy bake ovens, dress up dolls, and baby dolls, instead of offensive shit like this.

I'd imagine that the obssetion with Babies and cooking that 9 year old girls had hasn't gone away in the eight or so year's since I was a little boy but still, depending on the reason behind this it could be sexist. Don't they imply they took a survey? If most girls when asked what they would like a game about said cooking and shoes is it still sexist to make a game for them?

All kidding aside, I really enjoy cooking and design as do a lot of other people but there's got to be something to the babies being a hobby thing that's just not for us. Cabbage patch kids have been around for a long time as have realistically shitting dolls that alot of people seem to actually get a kick out of.

Is the fascination in a kid raising a child similar to taking care of a nintendog or something? Pretend responsibility without the potential for serious complications? A sense of warmth and joy in caring for something or someone? It makes sense but does it really constitute a hobby/interest to the degree of having a DS game for it?

    Guess the numbers will tell.
