holy thread necromancy batman! I thought interplay went tits up back in 2005-6 but according to wikipedia they still kind of exist... it still seems like a smoke and mirrors campaign to look like a publishinghouse tho.
But arent the original guys from fallout interplay days basically obisdian entertainment today? Even if this isnt a vapor ware scheme to steal investor money what kind of guarantees do we have that it will do better than say... fallen earth?

Huh. I thought I'd be the lone voice of dissent for feeling pessimistic about the success of this venture.
Guess I'm not as big an outlier as I thought.
Yeah, I have no interest in this entire project. Zero. As far as I'm concerned, MMOs have repeatedly and consistently raped their own potential. We're at a point where I'm just going to assume any new MMO is complete shit until proven otherwise.

Anyone else notice the little details on that website?
THE MASTER LIVES is scrawled onto the desk. Along with HAROLD with an X etched into the desk next to his name.
there's no way this is going to be anything but Interplay trying to make a quick buck by riding Bethesda's FO3 coattails. And it's not that I'm pessimistic about Interplay's ability to make a good game as much as I'm pessimistic about playing Fallout with other people.
I dreamed about a Fallout MMO for a long time. Since then I've played many MMO's, and every single one of them has ended up being so tedious that the life of the world is sucked right out. When I play Fallout games, I get immersed in another world, and I'm not interested in sharing that world with some greasy powergaming shut-ins.

I have to wonder how this makes sense to canon. I mean, an MMO is, by its nature, a big thing. So, how do they hand wave whatever place of the world it takes place in, having possibly thousands and thousands of Vault Dwelling, Lone Wandering, Package-carrying, Chosen Ones?
This is why I kind of hate MMOs based on single player titles as a general rule. They usually bork the canon, no matter how silly that canon might already be, irreparably. There is nothing worse than "some guys in totally wicked rad gear killed the biggest bad the series has ever known" becoming canon.
When I heard about this years ago, I was interested, but after having played most of the Fallouts, I am definitely against the very premise of a multiplayer Fallout, a series utterly dedicated to telling me how special I am and that only I can change or destroy entire sections of the retro-future-post-apocalyptic America.

Well there goes the hope of further single player Fallouts.
Well even if FOO is succesful I doubt it will keep us from getting SP Fallouts.
Remember FOO is Interplay, SP FO is Bethesda.
Also Interplay had to fight very hard to make Fallout Online, Bethesda tried a few times to close it down on the way.
Yeah because Interplay has done shit with the license forever
Interplay in all honesty has been complete assholes about the whole thing, they're basically doing the dev version of internet domain squatting and it's completely douchey of them
On top of that I like how they're not even classy enough to acknowledge FO: NV's existence
IT'S FUCKING OBSIDIAN, BASICALLY ALL OLD INTERPLAY GUYS

Yes but if they didn't show 'due effort' then rights revert to Bethesda
so basically they'll release like one screenshot every couple of months
they've been doing this for years and years and years now

I didn't look to see if this was posted before. Frankly I'm disappointed in you guys that it wasn't in the last three pages.
It was a good movie, but it literally wrecked every piece of star trek before it (by writing it out of existence in a, what, one minute long viginette?), and then STO took what was left and basically turned it into a parody.
So movie was awsome, but it was responsible for the destruction of Star Trek as a franchise nontheless.
I'm just saying if this goes through, having two competing companies working with the same license, and with obviouslly no desire to cooperate, it's going to muddle up the lore so bad you might as well start over fresh. And fallout has some good lore.
Perhaps I should have left out the analogy and just said that.

The only people who view it as a destruction are the hardcore old fans. For literally everyone else, especially the people counting the money the Star Trek franchise makes, the movie was a resounding reinvigorating success.
To suggest STO has anything vaguely approaching relevance to future outings is ridiculous. It will be ignored. Because it is a mumoperger and no one cares.

That's the Joke; They're doing there best to ignore bethesda made an excellent game in there setting.
That having been said, thank god they didn't include FO:BOS as an option.
I own it myself though and god its a terrible fallout game, but it is a decent mindless hack'n'slash though.

In most ways FO3 was a better game than FO 1 or 2
Signed up, I'm amazed this has made it to beta. I hope it's wonderful.
I swear to god, if someone hasn't told him about this yet I'm going to give him so much shit when I get home. :rotate:

Yeah, absolutely.
I don't know about FO3, but I'd probably say New Vegas is better in practically every way.
They actually for the most part seem to like new vegas. But still fallout is hands down the worst fanbase for a single player game series.

And holy shit reading my post from back in 07... It's like going back in time. Look at my hair!
In other words, I hope you liked your time with Fallout, cause the entire storyline is about to go to total shit!
So your comparison doesn't make much sesnse
