I think it's more fun in multiplayer to have a bunch of AI dudes in addition to the players because it adds another element and manipulating them to do things to other people is funny
Let me get something straight. In this game, do you get a leader who stays with you for the entire game? Like, a 17th century shogun could end up in modern times?

I have really fond memories of Civ 2 because that's the one I played the most and it was a huge leap from the original. 3 didn't do much for but IV is quite good.
