Does welding reel mowers together count as technology?
I dont really see why, except that maybe its heavier than the average tractor. Also, with different tires...
hmm...
In hindsight probably true, as it isn't as if the lawn will be getting cut on muddy ground after a huge rainstorm. Is it? Still, I suppose it depends on the SUV and the lawn...
It's like an acre, with some trees. The suv is very small and light, and the ground is very hard and durable. If I drive slowly, there's no way I'll fuck it up. It seriously takes me two days to do the whole thing with a pushmower and then I have to do it again the next week. Pro: I am rather upper body strong from this. Con: It KILLS me.
The pre-made gang reels cost $1000+.
Problem: I do not have a welding tool.

if you have trees, you're going to need to make some tight turns or you're in for a world of frustration. Rather than welding 5 mowers together, make a chasis and weld the mowers to that. Make sure that each mower on the outside edge can pivot, and you'll be able to turn very tightly.
True. There is so much wide space / space between the tree areas though, I could still slash my time even without any complicated mechanical doo-hickeys.
Preferably, I would just mount a mower deck from a riding mower UNDERNEATH my Trooper. Aside from a shitty Monster Garage mustang, I have found little to no information on this.
By the way, being able to mow in air conditioned comfort with radio, drink holder, etc, is a huge plus. You'd have to pay out the ass for a tractor with those perks and it would be at least $9000.

I saw this huge mower on a program on the History Channel. It was basically a huge tractor with five giant mower blades attached to the front and sides. I think it's mowing widthw was something like 40 feet. Then they showed how they get it from place to place. The blades lift up and fold up onto the front and the cab spins around so it can just drive off.
Anyone have a picture of that? I have no clue what it is called.
If you simply weld the reels together, and allow them no pivoting ability, you'll have big issues going over hills and bumps. If you look at the picture of the premade you provided, you can see the joints meant to allow the individual reels to "flex" over hills.
Also, just buy a damn riding lawn mower off of craigslist.

What is the point of this thread?
I assume you're building that little 5-mower thing from scratch, rather than buying the one pictured?
Solution: replace SUV with stout oxon.
my lawn was about 1 acre, so I had to use a tractor with a mower attachment to get that sucker. It still took like an hour.
Even worse were the days when I had to mow the 1.5 acre field that was on the other side of my driveway... ugh.
Anyway, that seems like a really cool idea, and I'd be really interested to see how using a car to tow it works out.

It all depends on the ground, really. If the ground is soft, then yeah. If it's relatively tough, highgrounds field, then the car should do fine.

I might get a riding mower if I can rig it to operate by remote control.
