The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
I just picked up my Limited Edition for PC, and my Big Daddy had its first section on the drill rolling around in the box. The problem is I don't know if this is a big enough issue to say its "broken", as I'm only missing about 2 mm of the drill. I'll probably just super-glue it back on.
On another note, are any other Canadians disgusted by how much writing there is on the back of the game case? I think the instruction booklet has about as much writing.
The problem is that I won't be able to send it until 2 weeks from now, when I'll be at my new place. I wonder if that would be too late, as 2K might run out of the extra Big Daddies and books by then. I hope people won't be smashing their Daddies with hammers in order to get the book, so those with legitimate broken figures won't be able to get replacements.

I can't speak for the books, but they're already "out of" Big Daddies. The email we got said they're making a new batch of them specifically to deal with this, and it will be about six to eight weeks before they have any new ones to send out.
I'm considering just snapping the arm off mine to get that art book.

Yah, when I went to pick mine up at Gamestop here in the states the chick at the counter gave me the option to swap out my pre-ordered CE w/ a perfectly fine Big Daddy for the single broken big daddy they received, and I jumped at the chance. Don't give half-a-crap when my figurine arrives, just as long as it does some day, and to pick up a free art book to-boot? Awesome. I was perfectly happy to help them unload it...I think the chick was very surprised, she was expecting a much tougher sell.
I wonder too how they'll handle intentional bashers. For my part, I assume they can verify w/ the store that they did in-fact receive a broken big-daddy, but I don't know how they can handle those that had them shipped directly to them.
The answer is they can't. There's no way they can verify that one way or the other. If they could there wouldn't be a general solution like this.
The email most retailers received went into more detail than the official site, going so far as to specify that 2KGames will send you a "coffin" for the Big Daddy after you enter your information in at the Bioshock/busted site.

My EB Games had called me, and everyone else who had pre-ordered, yesterday saying that most the of 360 statues drills had snapped and that we may have to wait for a replacement. I ended up getting there right when they opened, only three people were there including myself. The guy there just let me switch out mine for a non broken one. I was wondering how much this problem occurred though. Must be quite often.
The art book seems like it would be a good replacement for those that have broken though.

Not a replacement though...supposedly we get a healthy figurine AND a printed art book for our troubles. So, tits I say.
you shoulda got a broked one
Oh, and if our replacement figurine comes broke, I want one of them kick-ass faceplates as a round-2 pay-off...

If that works, I'm buying the game and doing the same.
I want that printed art book! (I don't care too much for the game... not an FPS fan, really.)

Heard the proposition that RIAA and MPAA should join forces and form "Music And Film Industry Association"?
Like you, only a very small portion of my Big Daddy's drill is broken (only I don't have the broken bit in the box). On one hand, I would very much like the art book. On the other hand, I think it might be a bit... rude, I suppose, just to have such a minute detail fixed.

I'm conflicted.
You would also be able to form 100% kickass team of big daddies (a big daddy water programmer and a big daddy water artist). Think of it as revenge for the soundtrack CD.
yeah I went to pick up mine this morning and they only had two both were crushed the grill on his face was smashed and one arm was broken off on both. after I heard about the artbook I rushed back to pick one up but the had gotten in another shipment that seemed fine but when I opened it the drill was broken.
Anyone have any idea when the site will update so we can send them our info for the book and replacement figure?

read the site closely, it says that they are manufacturing new figures to meet the demand of broken ones.
if you are really worried, though, do you have any friends who will let you use their address?
I was surprised with the LE version (I just wanted the regular version), but the Big Daddy's pose is so...Plain. I wish he looked a slight bit more dynamic.

Agreed. He could at least be mid-stride or something.
So I bought my Xbox SE version of the game, found my Big Daddy drill bit rolling around in the box and contacted Gamestation about it who told me to go to 2K's website.
Turns out the offer isn't available in the UK. Now, I'm not too bothered as the special edition was only £5 extra and contains the figurine, soundtrack (3 tracks? Fuck, this was what I bought the SE for) and making of DVD (which I'm half-expecting to be a crappy making of movie at this point), but it's the fact that they don't offer this return and get an art book free thing over here that's annoying me.
I'll just glue it back on but I'm pretty ticked off about the whole thing.
I raise this thread from the dead to proclaim that last week, my replacement Big Daddy arrived w/ the art book in tow. Odd thing is, I never received a 'coffin' to send my busted on back in, which they said you'd have to do in order to get a replacement. My guess is once they looked at the numbers, they figured it would be cheaper to just replace all of the ones that had been registered as broken rather than take the time to verify that each claim was accurate. So yah, months after I've last seen a virtual Big Daddy, I have a pristine porcelain one to look at.

That's like saying "The Mona Lisa is a piece of crap because I hate wops.".
I can assure you that it is spoiler free
No. It's not. It's like saying you don't care much for a game because of it's genre.
Madden NFL 08 is looking to be the best football game in years, but I doubt many on this forum would give half a shit.
I'm picking up Bioshock tomorrow and hope i get a Big Daddy and said Big Daddy is not broken.
Still can't play it until after Labor Day, no 360 (haven't bought one)

Bad packaging I'd say.

most of the problems seem to bewith one or both arms.
apparently (I haven't looked too closely) the body is metal, but the dril (or maybe both arms) is/are plastic
