Gran Turismo 5: How close to being photorealistic?
I dont know if any of you have seen the latest Gran Turismo 5 footage, I've never been a fan of the series personally, but I think there's something to be said for a trailer when you can hardly tell if its a game or reality. What do you guys think?
Yea, it's pretty damn close. Though the cars obviously aren't organic or something as complicated as water. But yea, games in this generation down the line are probably going to be even closer.
Looks pretty nice but I hope there are more environmental effects like rubber on the road, dust, gravel etc..
It seems too clean, like a fantastic looking car on a good looking track but nothing else. A racecar fashion show.
Haha thanks for doing that. But I wonder if they will even bother releasing another GT this generation or just have GT5 and update it extensively with new content over PSN. What would you guys rather have, a new GT and little content updates for GT5 or just GT5 for the entire console lifespan and a lot of updates?

This is reminding me of the crazy fuckup where Sony was going to sell a version of Gran Turismo with no cars or tracks, and you'd have to purchase them separately over PSN.
I think that the market would prefer traditional game releases, but then I like to think that gamers who play ultra-realistic racers want to have car damage effects, too, and GT continues to sell well regardless, so who knows.
I think I would want GT6 instead of an expansive GT5. But that's just me. As for car damage, yeah, they need to get that game if they are going to continue to give it the moniker of "The Real Driving Simulator" :P

Flight Simulator doesn't model damage. Why should a driving sim model damage?

flight simulator DOES model damage. Anything can fail and you have dozens of scenarios where you must pilot and land when things do fail.

Good try though.
Good point. Is that how it is in Forza, damage actually affects performance instead of just being cosmetic? I've never played it. I can agree with that. All this time I thought people wanted damage just because it looked cool.

Yes, exactly.
I think it was an old GT5 thread, but somebody said something along the lines of "Gran Turismo has become a verb for me, as in 'I gran turismoed off of the other car to get the first place spot'. In Forza, if you bump into the 5th place guy as you're overtaking other cars, you aren't going to win. In GT, it's part of your strategy."
Love the game but am worried about this whole prologue thing. Why release it now? Anyone think Sony is starved for titles so have decided to get this out there asap?
Then, after experiencing other racers, by the time GT3 came out, I realised how incredibly sterile and boring it is. The "Real Driving Simulator" experience had worn thin. You can customise better than any other racer, and sure, its sim aspects are deep. But, a RACING simulator it is not.
GT has gotten to the point where I think it looks better than real life. Not more accurate (that doesn't even make sense now that I re read it), but more appealing.
I don't play the series but damn that is one pretty game.

well to be fair forza has shown me how much i enjoy just tinkering with a car.
I'd be excited if it wasn't a game about cars.
They do nothing for me (Except for Burnout).
But it is very pretty. The cars seem slightly too shiny, but overall very impressive.

He's not really a spambot, he just looks like one.
And admittedly, the game does look damned close to real life.

Like racing games have finally hit the "uncanny valley" of vehicles or something.
