The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
As of this morning it's official. Puzzle Fighter for Xbox Live Arcade will launch on Wednesday, August 29th and for the Playstation Network on Thursday, August 30th for the cost of 800 points and $10 respectively. I can't be the only one looking forward to this one. Online play? Game ons? A nice little tournament going on?
BD) What kind of online multiplayer support will the game feature?
RH) Both the PS3 and 360 versions will support 2 to 4 players. Two-player ranked matches, up to 4-player unranked matches, which will be very similar to Street Fighter Hyper Fighting on the 360 where two players play while two others can spectate.
BD) Is it called Quarter Match this time?
RH) We didn’t coin it Quarter Match in the game, no pun intended. But it basically functions just like Hyper Fighting’s Quarter Match.
BD) Can you talk about the new stuff that fans can look forward to?
RH) Besides the new graphics for the gems, crash effects, menus, character portraits, and whatnot, plus the online multiplayer and re-balanced X’ mode, both Ryu and Ken have new background stages. Ken’s stage is now a beach, with some other Street Fighter characters in the background, and Ryu’s stage is now a cool snowy night scene. The Xbox 360 version also has 12 Achievements for a total of 200 points, standard for Xbox Live Arcade titles.
BD) What’s your favorite thing about the new game?
RH) I think probably the new elemental effects, when the gems break. Partly because I helped design that feature. But I just think the elemental explosions and effects are what really makes it look a step above the previous games.
Here's hoping all or most of the unlockables from the old PS1 version are still in there.
I thought I was good at this game, and then some gal from Capcom waxed me nonstop at E3. She was not moved by the single tear that fell down my cheek as she crush my soul with a yellow block. Or maybe it was green. I'm colorblind.
It is unfortunate that this isn't available in disc form, as my friend has recently lost his copy of the original and it would have been great if I could have gotten this for him. He lacks a 360/PS3.

being colorblind puts you at a severe disadvantage at this game. I'm impressed you are able to work it so well. Ya-- I'm rusty at the moment but for me it doesn't take long to shake that rust off.
*edit-- minutes later on hard on the GBA puzzle fighther**
Gamertag is Kirin, if anyone wants a decent opponent, give me an invite.
I only got to play for a few minutes before work, but I will say, the exclusion of the unlockables (that I saw anyway) menu was a mid range for me. Part of the fun my friends and I had with the PS1 version was unlocking all the special stuff for each character.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is on the SF: Alpha Anthology, to let you know.

Are you sure it's Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo? I'm pretty sure it's Pocket Fighter, which uses the mini SF and Darkstalkers chars from Puzzle Fighter in a fighting game format, where you pick up gems knocked from opponents.
Puzzle Fighter HD is pretty good, hopefully lots of people play it online for some good versus action.

You are correct; it's Pocket Fighter (Gem Fighter) on the Alpha Anthology, not Puzzle Fighter.
Man, I gotta get me this when I buy my 360 for Halo 3. Though it's gonna be weird transitioning from Sword Fighting in Puzzle Pirates to this. So similar, yet so different.

So how is this with the 360 controller? Does it play ok? I can either get this for the 360 or the PS3 and I am leaning more towards the 360 version for achievements, but I want to make sure that the controller is ok for the game.
Well whatever, I see it I think 'Oh, it's not that much.' Next thing I know I have stuff I've bought in the past, and I don't really know why. I'm not complaining though, every once in awhile I'm just kind of surprised by it.

It does build up after a while. I recently hit 30 arcade titles, and a lot of those are old school games. The online play added to most of them make it very worth it, but still... The small cost and easy access does kind of kill that buyers remorse voice in the back of your head.
Your not the only one. I tried one online game and I got pwned. Went back to practicing with single player. I haven't even been able to complete normal single player without dying. :x
With that said this is worth the 800 fun bucks. More so I think than some other recent releases. I really wanted to like the new Tempest game (Space Animalsomething?) but I felt like I was gonna have a seizure in the first 30 seconds. Into the virtual trash bin it went.
Man I love pretty 2d graphics. I demand moar! WTB Street Fighter 2 HD Remix now! :P

I downloaded the trial of this, and I love it, but man, it's pretty unplayable with the 360 pad.

I was mega annoyed when I saw this listed in the xbox live store, and then saw that the only things available were themes and avatars.
Because of the HD suffix.

Ya-- I've still got it.
I still have the PS version....
There is nothing worse then kicking someone's ass with Dan. Death by red blocks!
I cannot win a match online.. Everyone just drops blocks faster while I try to get combos going and the like and I get buried.

i miss the sound of breaking glass.

Yeah, but it seems like this is the sort of thing we want with micro transactions, not horse armor (Those guys are never going to live it down.)
Also, it is good to hear that the analog stick works well, since that is what I used for Lumines.

Yeah when I read that I was like what is the other option? They release it on disc and charge $60 for it?

Is there an option to turn the graphics and sound effects to the old style?
