Movies, PAX, and you

So, I went down to watch the last starfighter with 3 others. I went down because I actually like the movie and haven't seen it in many years...two others hadn't seen it at all.

By 10 minutes into the movie, the stupidly bad catcalling was so loud that you couldn't even hear the audio. It started out pretty small, but kept accelerating as people desperately tried to come up with funny comments in a pathetic attempt to gain a tiny bit of attention from the crowd. Sometimes, 2 or 3 catcallers would be commenting at the same time, so you couldn't even make out what THEY were saying. Most of the comments were extremely unfunny, such as:

"this is madness!"
"he's hugging the video game!
"hello dave"
"R2D2 is in the machine!"

Guys, seriously...if you can't shut your mouth and sit still for 10 minutes, maybe you should go do something else. There are tons of places at PAX where you can hang out with your friends and make all the jokes you want.

After about 15 minutes into the movie, we all just left.

I'm pretty sure they came up with the idea of showing old video game movies because they thought people would enjoy it and think it was cool, not so people could sit there trying to use the theater as a platform for a tiny bit of social acceptance. Obviously this isn't a serious screening and some chatter is to be expected, but when you can't even HEAR THE MOVIE because so many people are shouting out retarded, played out comments that might have been funny 8 years ago it gets pretty frustrating.

So, thanks for wrecking something that I thought was one of the coolest things about this year's PAX.

you may not realize this . . . but that is what happens when you get a large group of geeks together in one room to watch a movie. that was the whole point really. I for one thought the experience as a whole was totally fucking awesome.

Agreed. If you've never watched a film in a wild urban area (best PC way to say it) you'll get a similar experience with ANY film new or old

I agree, I was in the Last Star Fighter also and the cat calling we expected and it was accepted. It was just like the wizard last year and just as funny too. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the movie. I ended up leaving early too but thats cause I could keep my eyes open any more :)

Have a good time at PAX don't let this get ya down.

I just really hope that people aren't going to be all loud and cat-cally at 8bit tonight. It's the special premiere showing just for PAX.

    I'm stupid, I admit it.

I'll be okay in the future, though.

And my pax pass is still at sealab.

    Hotel bound on PAX Saturday,
I exclaimed "Khoo is my Sensei!"
So if memes make great shirts,
    And Pod Six is Jerks,
Then Moe, Khoo and I had our day.

I found it odd, I went around to Last Starfighter and The Wizard both, and everyone was perfectly silent during The Wizard, but making fun of Last Starfighter. Which should be the other way around, it's BAD movies you should be making fun of, not GOOD movies. Sure, it's expected in bad movies at a place like this, you expect it, but not good movies.

Everyone at TRON was awesome. Just the right amount of commentary and funny w/o any obnoxious behavior.

Are you the same guy who popped the ball during the PA Panel today? (joke)

Dude, PAX is all about shit like that. If you want to seriously watch that movie, you need to rent it or something, because 30,000+ Bawls-injected nerds aren't going to sit quietly through, well - anything, really.
