Transformers were given first, they didn't win it.
Tourney ran long, they had a hissy fit, and admin gave them the prizes and let them leave instead of play the Losers bracket winners.
Admin said it was his call to let them have 1st without playing the final match, but two people present saw some chubby Asian kid whining about how they shouldn't have to play again since they were undefeated at that point. Admin told them if they didn't play the finals match they would forfiet. They said they only had passes for Saturday and shouldn't have to play, and Admin caved and let them leave with the prizes without finishing the tournament.
SoG tied our pug (one pub player, one console gamer, one active CSS player, and two inactive) for 2nd. It went to triple overtime and admins called it a tie due to time constraints.
Yeah, it sucks when tourneys run long, but calling matches a tie or letting people win because you're short on time isn't the way to go about it.

Yeah, I wish the admins had let the tourny play through to the next day. Being given first place is not the way I'd want to win it. As for the TIE with SOFG... GG in triple overtime. It was fun. Next year we'll have our guys play Source before the tourny.

Yes i'm sure you would have won, especially since 4 of us barely have ever touched source until the day before the tourney. and 4/5 of us have never even heard of the map de_season, literally running around the map 5 mins before the match started to see where the bombsites were(which we beat your team on) and that we beat both the 2nd and 3rd place team pretty handily. and the only person good on your team is pno, and he accepted the outcome rather graciously. sorry if 3/5 of our players only has one day passes and only went to pax to win the source tourney and didnt wanna come back the next day to beat u guys in 1 match to get prizes. did you really expect to beat us on any map twice after we beat you on a map we never even seen till 5 minutes proir to the match? and uhh gg to all ... did i mention 3 of us never even played 1 source match ever prior to pax? and that one was a total pub nub and didnt even know how match play worked? so with all the source experience we got from the match expeirience we got we would have probably beatin u even worse. and way to call poeple "chubby asian kid" after u lose and poeple leave...e-thug in the house.

it was an awesome suprise to go not into 1 or 2 OT's but to go into the third. unfortunatly at this point it was 3 am they called it a draw and we split the 2nd place purse.

As much fun as parensi(sp?) is it could be done without. i'd suggest de_strike or mill
Console.
easily the most controversial aspect of the lan, i really think it needs to be able to be opened and allowed for specific settings to be changed (crosshairscale and sensitivity to a certain length)
Overall.
No 5 hour breaks next time, its gonna be the same amount of time either way.
I would have much rather lost the tournament than just have some folks walk out without finishing, demanding that they get a prize since they don't want to come the next day.
Oh yeah... this is why I stopped playing competitive games since the moment an e-thug gets home behind his PC and touches the keyboard it's flame city...
We didnt so much have a hissy fit, it was more like they were closing and a call had to be made. If you wanted first you should have beat us, plain and simple. We beat both teams that tied for second. So you can't say you never had the chance to play us to see if you could have beaten us. Also no one on our team had ever played de_seasons either. I played source for the first time last week....
The winner of that game would have to beat us TWICE. Since our closest match was 16-9? I think we had a good chance of winning at least one of those matches.
It's fair and logical to give us first considering the above points and PAX was closing for the day. Sorry I had better things to do on Sunday than drive out to seattle convention center, set up, and beat you guys.
Also "Admin told them if they didn't play the finals match they would forfeit. " this is not true. We were never told this. Your "two people present" were miss informed. You weren't there (triple OT?), I was.
That 'fat asian kid' remark was unnecessary. Jerry is probably the coolest guy in the entire NW gaming community and when it comes to looks I don't remember you guys being anything special.
Better luck next year.
Everyone else:
Everyone I met seemed really cool and had good sportsmanship. I had a blast. Despite the 3 AM thing which couldnt have been forseen with 3 over times, the tourney went smoother than any tourney I've been to. Thank admins.
guys this is why css and cs are getting bann'd from not completly competative lans, because egos are getting in the way of it all and the thuging is getting ridiculous, lets attack the way people look thats mature. Grow up. You didnt have a good time? You felt cheated? Go home and dont come back. I wont miss you.
CS gets banned when tourneys run smooth and people argue for no good reason.
When things get messed up (like it did here), it should be expected that people are annoyed with the outcome.
I've been to 15+ cs tournies ( 2 world class ) things never go smooth in a cs tournament. and there is always crying @ the end thats why i don't play cs anymore
Hey atwood. WOOOO! WOOOOOOO!
We entered just to have fun, and we succeded. Our main goal was to get the other teams to have a good time, and I think a 16-0 win would help with that.

you cant make assumptions based on a previous match. sofg stood behind us while calling us bad to other people during 3 of our matches. when we played them we went to triple ot. we didnt know the map either, and one of our players just started source as well. we're not saying that we would have beaten you, and i'm definitely not saying we would have lost. the only thing that is cheap here is giving somebody a prize when they haven't fulfilled all the qualifications to get there. if it was single elimination we wouldn't be having this discussion. you would have walked away with first prize and that would be that. however, to make it a more level playing field it was double elimination.
if a team gets stuck on either a bad map or a map they dont know then they have an opportunity to play again on a different map. i see that only as more opportunity to have more fun and to prove how much better you are than everybody else. sorry you had better things to do than play the tournament as it was posted, i hope next time you stay till the end. its more fun for everybody. i bought a 3 day pass, why should i be penalized because you had better things to do?
Man, for someone who's been to a lot of tourneys, you sure don't know anything about winning gracefully. You two had better things to do than to go to PAX on Sunday? Great. You should have done them on Saturday.
Anyway, I had a blast playing with Team Champloo . . . great bunch of guys and it worked surprisingly well, especially considering we got the (final) team together for the first time five minutes before starting play :-) Bunch of clutch shots made by everyone, aces, and some ridiculous knifing made for some VERY fun matches!
Being a gracious loser is just as much a part of the game as being a gracious winner.
The admins did what they could given the situation.
Honestly, as far as I know, there was no whining done over playing late that was done. I didn't hear anything about calling the tourney until nub and SofG were starting overtime. The admin did ask around 2AM or so, "if [they] could get us in tomorrow for free would [we] be able to make it?" I told him maybe, and I'm pretty sure that's what GR said too. Prior to that I heard from sofg that pax wanted to charge us to finish the tourney on Sunday. charging us for an extra day would have been a catch-22: 3 of us would have had to pay for an extra day that we shouldn't have to based on the premise of the tourney, the other option was to let the tourney standings stay as they were at the end of the day, something sofg said they were fine with, and really makes the most sense when you have a time based deadline.
Things didn't fall apart because of any team complaining or arguing. Things fell apart because of time constraints. I'm sure there were more tourneys that needed to play on Sunday and needed those same computers that source was using. There's no real solution to running out of time like we did. The most reasonable thing that could be done was leaving the results based on where teams stood when the event closed.
I don't mean to flame, I'm sure you feel it's just as reasonable to assume that we'd lose on a map we understood, but the assumption that we'd win on a different map is based on sound reasoning. The first 3 rounds we lost t side of season were from pistol. No team got more than 5 rounds in a half against us. 3 of the 5 rounds we lost in the upper bracket final were because we lost a pistol round. Only 1 or 2 of our players even has/had source installed on their computer at home (within the last 4 months). Only one player from our team had ever heard of season before we played it. In 5 matches, we lost a total of 16 rounds. 11 of those rounds were on maps 4 of us had never played before. One of our players, the one who had never played any organized cs before, was fairly drunk for most, if not all of our matches. Lastly, we started on the weakside of every match we played and still won handily.
Oh yeah... this is why I stopped playing competitive games since the moment an e-thug gets home behind his PC and touches the keyboard it's flame city...

We never stood behind you calling you bad. Atwood has lanned with Pno before and probably was joking with him. We watched and said we could hang with you guys but we all had respect for your team and we all shook hands. Transformers was obviously the better team and the result would have been the same no matter how you rearrange it in your eyes.
Who doesn't know Dust2??? You said you went to triple OT and you didn't know the map. WTF are you talking about.
The last thing I want to say is that the whole console thing was BS. As a team we took this rule seriously and played with all standard settings then we walked around and found almost every other top tiered team with console customized crosshairs and I am sure rates. The admins should have allowed console if so many teams were not going to follow the rules. I don't blame anyone else I just think it's a BS rule because I have never played with crosshairs so huge which pissed me off to see so many other players with console customized crosshairs and settings.
To be completely honest, I'm not happy with a lot of what I'm reading... For shame.
Simply My PAX CS:S Tournament Experience of 2007 = AWESOME!
Everything was ran as best as the admins could with their schedules. There was a lot of conflicting tournaments and contests going on during the CS:S tourney and I'd never want to blame it on the people running the tournament. If anyone should take the blame it should be me, I had hardware problems on 2 computers and it took a little over 20 minutes to fix it, that is completely on me and I apologize for that.
I really don't like anger, which isn't a CS (or CS:S) community trait, it's just more common to see it come from them as they do catch quite a bit of the public eye when it comes to Tournaments and the "bitching", lets just say even I came across as one of them. I have to also apolgize again to Mif and all the Tournament admins because I for one did make a couple extra requests, how little or how big of the request makes no difference to me but I still made them and I feel it more than likely displeased some people, I am sorry.
I'd like to state my stance on the tournament. I actually was in favor of having Transformers take 1st place for the tournament. I liked everyone in the tournament and out of habit I befriend anyone and everyone I meet in person, especially when it comes to playing the same game I do. Making friends is a lot cooler than making enemies in my opinion. Transformers beat my pug (Team Nub) fair and square on De_Season, given it was bad luck we were both placed to play on that map, I can't make up any excuse for myself because I have played the map before in matches and scrims, but no one on the other team knew about it either. I'm sure Godrecords has played it a few times because we are both active CS:S players, but that just means the fairness of playing each other on this map was equal. We lost 16-9. I honestly can't feel bad because I was outplayed by very experienced CS players (1.6). The games are different, but the concepts are the same and I honestly feel that playing you guys was a learning experience all the same.
I was in the same situation Transformers was in at a WC3 2v2 tournament. My team mate and I were standing on a 5-0 record for the tournament and the LAN was closing up before Finals had been played. We thought, "We've beaten the team that is coming from the Lower Brackets, so we should be deemed 1st because of time." Sadly the guy in the lower brackets was running the tournament and complained to the LAN Organizer saying "There's enough time" when there obviously wasn't since he'd have to beat us twice to get 1st place. The LAN Organizer just said "I'm voiding the tournament." and we never got anything. I played my little heart out and got nothing... I did not want that happening to anyone else as long as I have some sort of influence.
I had tons of fun. A lot of you know that because I even gave away my tickets to my team instead of using them to get prize. I'm planning (hoping) to help out next year so the little quirks that happened don't happen again, not because it was the admins fault, but because I'd rather they enjoy running a tournament rather than hate or stress out about it.
I hope I never disrespected anyone at the event, I never intended to and I hope we can look past the badluck on time, and congratualte your 2007 CS:S tournament winners. Given I would have liked to have the Title of Undisputed Champ 3 years running, but I had a lot more fun playing against good players and those who can shoot.
Cool beans, you guys have really improved since last year, I'm very impressed. Keep up practicing and hope to play you again next year.
Syntax, you guys played a good game. I noticed you guys have some good shots, your strats were moderate to say the least. Just some more practice and a little effort and you guys should break out of Open in no time. Keep practicing and don't tie pugs! :D:D
P.S. Atwood! Both times I've had pugs! LEMME GET A TEAM AND We'LL SEE HOW IT ROLLS :D:D:D You especially have improved since PDX7 man. Keep doing it.
Transformers, It was a treat to play against you guys. I hope to keep contact and maybe if you guys ever get bored enough to play this game more we'll pug it up or something. Take care!

In regards to that I suppose I should be disqualified for enabling Console. I only did so that I could record demos of every match because I promised the individual making my CS:S Frag Movie SourceTV demos, but soon as I learned that they were not recording SourceTV demos I did not want to disappoint my movie maker and enabled it so I could record and gather all my demos from the matches.
As for customization, I was respecting the commands which are accessible in the CPL GUI which means I changed nothing illegal. As for rates, I had edited the CEVO FPS Config the night before allowing for good graphics and best performance for LAN play (Meaning Rates were all at 100/101/25000) and the Admins distributed this prior to the Tournament.
I can honestly say that I performed these commands in Console:
sensitivity .8
net_graph 3
cl_dynamiccrosshair 0
My key strokes were recorded in my demos so if you don't believe me I can hand them over at any given time.
The only other customization was the Aspect Ratio of the monitor. We were allowed to do as such at The CGS Combine seeing as they were Widescreens at that event as well (Quite possibly the exact same monitors). We only changed the Aspect ratio from 16:10 to 4:3 so I was able to play with the 800x600 resolution in-game and not have the screen stretched out to the sides and completely funk up my aim.
I apolgize, but you could have asked me what I did at the event and I would have told you the same thing and how to do so, because I am less fortunate than most to not have a Widescreen Monitor at home.

No no no. Don't get me wrong I was not trying to blame any particular players it was the tourney format that I was pissed at. I have always used a small crosshair and dynamic 0. I also play at 4:3 800x600 but I played the stupid default way because of the tourney rules. As I looked around to the final 4-8 teams almost everyone had console customized settings except for us which kind of made me sick cause the admins were obviously dropping the ball in not letting us play what we are ALL used to.
Also in one of our matches I was not getting good reg and could have tweaked my rates but I was afraid so I didn't.
Again I don't blame any player or team. I blame the lame and lax rule that was obviously not inforced and if I knew that earlier I think everyone on the team would have felt more comfortable.
I also think it was cool you got your demo's. I can't wait for the Movie!
Not to lok like a d-bag, but I imagine people want to see some screenshots. I couldn't collect anyone elses, but I do have the multiple matches my team played.
These are the only ones I could find. Yes, I know a majority of them have messed up text, I had to play with it or grab a new PC... I dealt with it. 3 Kills almost completely covers the screen so I had to be becareful how many people I killed per encounter.
I don't know how many other people aced at the event (I'm sure someone else had to), but Fallout and Myself both got 5K rounds. :D:D
SNAP! Just came to mind I dont' have SS's of Contra!

What team were you in? I was part of VEC... we sucked it up.
SoG tied Team Nub, I think.

Oh yeah... this is why I stopped playing competitive games since the moment an e-thug gets home behind his PC and touches the keyboard it's flame city...
When things get messed up (like it did here), it should be expected that people are annoyed with the outcome.
I've been to 15+ cs tournies ( 2 world class ) things never go smooth in a cs tournament. and there is always crying @ the end thats why i don't play cs anymore

Anyway, I had a blast playing with Team Champloo . . . great bunch of guys and it worked surprisingly well, especially considering we got the (final) team together for the first time five minutes before starting play :-) Bunch of clutch shots made by everyone, aces, and some ridiculous knifing made for some VERY fun matches!

I also had a 3 v 1 clutch defuse on Piranesi which I think I dropped 28.
Also a couple of 2 v 1 's peppered in here and there.
