...good 360 games...

That's a capture of gamerankings.com's "top 30" or whatever. I crossed out the games that I a.) have already played too much to justify buying, b.) already own, and c.) played and didn't like.

Any great ones there? And moving beyond the list.

Any must buys not listed there? I like pretty much everything sans puzzle games. I think my favorite game ever is God of War.

    Dead Rising is pretty great, and if you like racing sims Forza 2 is about as good as it gets. Viva Pinata also has gotten a lot of praise, I still haven't tried it myself though.

    Heck, I'd say most of the remaining games on that list are good (and in the right order to boot). There's a reason why they're the top 30 games. 360 gamers apparently know their stuff. :D

    Thanks much for the recs. so far.

    Now I propose a specialized question.

    I am looking for a 3d adventure/action game. This game will play similar to God of War and Shadow of the Colossus. The caveat, though, is that it will not possess magic. It will be like a hybrid of Max Payne/Stranglehold/God of War, but without guns- just swords/daggers/bows/etc.

    I'm essentially looking for a game where you're a Roman legionnaire/a Crusader/a thief in 1000AD/etc. etc. and you run around and kill people. Sort of like Shadow of Rome... but for 360.

    Any ideas?

    It's a list from gamerankings.com, so it's game reviewers averaged out that knows their stuff.

    This is what 360 owners bought:
    (Shamelessly pasted from wikipedia)
    * Gears of War (3.7 million)
    * The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (3 million, includes PC release)
    * Call of Duty 2 (1.4 million)
    * Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (1.37 million)
    * Dead Rising (1.22 million)
    * Madden NFL 07 (1.1 million in US)
    * Perfect Dark Zero (1 million)
    * Saints Row (1 million)
    * Dead or Alive 4 (1 million)
    * Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter (1 million)

    None of those that I know to be a horrible game, but console FPS arent my thing. Exept Oblivion, a game made horrible by a wierd leveling system.

    Project Offset, maybe? It's about what you're looking for. Problem is it's not confirmed for 360 (but if it is released, it's a likely platform for it) and hasn't been picked up by a publisher yet.

    Actually, Ninja Gaiden is back. compat., right? Despite it being last-gen and having some magic, I'd highly recommend that one for 3rd person action. It's pretty fucking hard, but it does have an insanely fun (and blisteringly fast) combat system.

    I picked up Dead Rising after getting some recommendations here in G&T. I did not regret my purchase. :^:

    It did. And as much as I figured I'd be disappointed by it as a long-time Thief fan (as it took the same approach generally as Deus Ex 2), it was actually QUITE good. Totally recommended.

    If you do pick up Dead Rising, do yourself a favour and take a look around for the PA thread. Main tip: Do not focus on trying to "complete" the game the first time around; it'll only frustrate you like crazy. Mess around a couple of times, save with your increased stats, and then try and beat the game. You'll thank us later.

    Awesome game if you do that. :^:

    Out of curiosity, with what criteria was Bioshock crossed off the list? Have you played it, or just have no interest in it?

    I'll just c&p my thoughts from the other thread:

    I dunno. I got myself a 360 a couple of days ago in anticipation of Assassin's Creed. I didn't feel like buying a new top seller until I researched them a bit more, so I grabbed Fight Night Round 3.

    When I walked into the store I heard one cashier talking animatedly with a customer about Bioshock. As I walked to the wall displays, I heard a group of customers excitedly discussing Bioshock. When I got to the counter to pay for my 360, another cashier recommended it. We talked about Ayn Rand for a moment, and he laughed and said "normally I get enough politics on bumper stickers, but in addition to the gameplay, the story and themes in this game are awesome".

    So I pass and say I'll think about it later. I come home and DL the Bioshock demo, and play it. Well.
    The graphics, firstly, are unbelievable, even on a standard definition television. The opening cutscene was great, and I'm sitting there in the water, not doing anything- because I didn't realize that interactivity had set in. The water looked that amazing. So I run in, grab a wrench, take in the scenery, kill a few guys, get a revolver, kill a few more, meet my first Daddy... it's a cool game.

    Then I set off the security system. The drones rush in, I lightning plasmid a few, and at that point I started to get turned off the game. It's just so hectic and really takes away from the sense of control I thought I had. I hacked a few bots and it slowed down, but it was still quite overpowering. 20 enemies rushing in, bots constantly floating overhead, and it wasn't really the pace I was hoping for. It's not that it was too difficult or anything- it was pretty simple, actually- but it just wasn't what I expected from this game. Bioshock places so much stock on the environment and creative solutions and all, and that's what I was hoping for- moving room to room and analytically impaling bitches and whatnot.

    It struck me as more of a run and gun spraying game, though. It was kind of overpowering and unexpected, so I'm not sure that I'll bother getting it at this point.

    It is a great, great game though- the experience of playing it is really wonderful.

    That said, someone mentioned that the demo is far more 'active' than the meat of the game, so I think I'm going to rent it for a few days and if I like it, grab it.

    I think I suck at the game. I've restarted once already, and I'm on the second day, and I'm only at level six. I guess I have to pay more attention to actually doing the scoops. As is I'm just killing zombies (to the tune of about 900) and a handful of psychopaths (currently trying to fight Cletus).

    Basically. I want to be lied to, then I'd like to act upon the falsified information and go to a chain gaming store and complain forcefully that I'd heard that the game was out and I'd damned well better get a copy or else I'll see the manager.

    I really want it to be out. :(

    I think I'll give PoP a look- I never played it. The 'no magic' thing isn't a very strict requirement- I just mean I don't want the game to basically be ice blasts and lightning bolts and fireballs with the occasional sword slash. I like melee.

    You get more PP, and hence more levels, by rescuing survivors. You can also score some big points with photos of PP stickers and interesting moments (say the reunion of the couple on the roof). So make that the focus of your first few playthroughs and you'll level up quickly.

    Also, grab books from the bookstore, especially the one that makes your bladed weapons last 3 times longer. That makes things a lot easier.

    I don't have the details myself, but I imagine you can find guides for everything (books, photos, leveling) out on the 'tubes, so check those out.

    Dead Rising is very strongly recommended, as mauling zombies never gets old.

    So uh.

    How do I get back to the security room?

    I like the awesome PP I get from escorting survivors, but I haven't successfully returned one to the safehouse yet because I can't find my way. Is it the warehouse? That is my suspicion but I always die before I make it there.

    I would really recommend Bioshock, because it rarely ever gets that frantic. Most of the time you are welcome to wander about, take in the sights and kill a guy here and there. I haven't enjoyed a game this much in years, and aside from Halo 3 I doubt I'll enjoy a game this much for a few more.

    Don't worry, you're doing fine. That's pretty much the experience you'll be having at that level, and you're playing it the way it should be played right now. Just focus on killing zombies, rescuing survivors, a few boss battles, and exploring the mall and trying out new weapons, mixing ingredients in blenders, taking lots and lots of photos, and trying out different books. Feel free to restart whenever you want, but also, try and do at least a couple of full runs to the end without worrying about the scoops. Right now, you're learning the basics and strategy for doing a full run, with all of the scoops, when you're at a much higher level. Don't freak out when even more bizarre shit gets thrown at you later in the game--the whole game is like that.

    Be sure to pull up the LttP Dead Rising thread in this forum. You'll find plenty of tips and some spoilers on how to make the game easier, including a helpful shortcut and recommended weapons and paths to take.
