So recently the World In Conflict demo was released, and it weighs in at a pretty hefty 1.2GB. And THAT has pressed on me the issue that I really want to get hold of a decent download manager.
I'm looking for asomething that will let me stop and start downloads as I want (possibly also schedule them and set the computer to shut down when it's finished). I'm surprised this kind of functionality still isn't in Firefox. Basically if I pause a download and try to re-start it it won't (since most sites prevent direct access to their files, you have to go through a script of some sort first usually). However, when I tell Firefox to start the download again, it won't resume the file, it'll just start it again with a (2) tacked on the end, even if there's a .part partial file with the same name on it there.
So are there any suggestions for a good download manager to use? I want to be able to start the download from the site, and have the manager recognise that it's the same file and continue it (or at least give me that option). My wi-fi is a bit flaky sometimes (largely because I'm a fair distance from the hub), so I can't always hope for a patch of good connectivity. I'd also like to be able to schedule start / stop times, multiple sources for the same file (since the same WiC installer is being distributed all over the place), and ability to set automatic shutdown (although these last items are optional to the main requirement of just being able to resume downloads). OS is Vista.
So, any recommendations? Is there anything that fits these requirements? I'd prefer it to be freeware, but I wouldn't mind paying a little if it's a good quality product that does everything it's supposed to, and does it well. Maybe I'm missing something in Firefox and it's actually quite easy to resume downloads. (wouldn't surprise me). Any help would be appreciated.

Good thing there's a ridiculously good freeware solution: Free Download Manager.
Every time I get a new game I go there and auto queue up all the patches and mods. Good download speed, and takes care of itself.
Does anyone know of a linux program that is similar in functionality and interface?
