Metroid Prime 3: Converting Console FPS hater?

At the start of this current console generation, I was extremely wary with how so many games in 360 and PS3 were switching to FPS or 3rd person control system for not only its shooter game, but also for general action and adventure games.
Even though I've played a bit of FPS and 3rd person games in PC (eg. System SHock 1/2, Thief, Quake, Deus Ex, Max Payne), I was always bad with console FPS controls.

I've tried playing console FPS and 3rd Person games in the console systems: Timesplitters, Red Faction, Halo, GRAW, Gears of War, Bioshock, etc.
I've even tried the lite FPS and 3rd Person controls such as RE4 and Metroid Prime 1/2 in the Gamecube, but I'll eventually give up the games because I was never satisfied with the controls.

I've missed so many great FPS and 3rd person games in PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, and 360 due to my dissatisfaction with dual pad controllers and so I've regarded FPS games as something I can never play.

My first surprise with how much I actually enjoyed shooter games came with playing RE4:Wii - I was able to take the controls immediately and I was able to enjoy the game as it should have been enjoyed in the first place because I didn't have to fight the controller.

My biggest surprise came with Metroid Prime 3 - although I haven't finished it yet, I can say that I am controlling Samus very smoothly - PC FPS-like: circle strafing, jumping circle strafing, while still dead-aiming the enemies without even using the lock-on button at all.

Right now I'm very excited of the prospect of great FPS or 3rd person shooters coming to the Wii since I know I won't have to fight the controller.
Again, I'm just surprised at how excited I am at the prospect of playing other great FPS games in a console.

tl;dr: I hate console FPS with a passion, but RE4:Wii and MP3 made me realize how much I actually like the genre if I can actually control it.

PS: Odd anecdotal finding, but probably just my weird friend: I have a friend who's quite a religious FPS console gamer, but not a PC FPS gamer at all.
After trying MP3, he told me that he was a bit overwhelmed by how fast the advanced control is for MP3. Even though I hate console FPS, I was accustomed to the control of MP3 in a matter of 5 minutes.
Is it perhaps I am more used to PC FPS control, hence why I had no problem with MP3 controls?

Haven't played MP3 yet but I agree that Resident Evil controls are a big step in the right direction. It really bugged me that I couldn't strafe though my roommate says that would take out all of the suspense... I agree if by suspense he means aggravation. I think the wiimote aiming is even more intuitive and natural than mouse aiming which is a step above stick aiming (though I do think the dual stick strafe method is more intuitive than keyboard).
