It's a long article, written by Patrick Moore, one of the founders of Green Peace. He's actually pissed about DiCaprio's new environmental film, stating that they got it wrong. I'll highlight the yummy part.
As a lifelong environmentalist, I say trees can solve many of the world's sustainability challenges. Forestry is the most sustainable of all the primary industries that provide us with energy and materials. Rather than cutting fewer trees and using less wood, DiCaprio and Berman ought to promote the growth of more trees and the use of more wood.
I'd never really thought of that view before. Younger, growing trees process more CO2 than a large fully established tree. So a young forest is actually better than an ancient forest in cleaning the air for us...
So long Redwood National Forest!
Hell, maybe I'm out of the loop and everyone knew this already. I never had any hippies teaching me shit like this in school though.
"What you had there is what we refer to as a focused non-terminal repeating phantasm or a Class 5 full-roaming vapor."
Juniper trees are like devil trees. I'm all for saving the trees, but somebody's got to do something about those things.
The expansion of Juniper in the arid and semiarid west is a major, major problem for sagebrush-steppe habitats. And it's damn hard to get done considering the cost, unless you have a cogeneration power plant nearby.
With some infrastructure improvements a huge portion of northeastern california and southeastern oregon could be almost entirely powered by wood.
hehe... wood.

Yeah, but old forests house creatures. Sure you can chop down an old growth forest for lumber and plant a new one at another site to make a mass balance, but unless you rent uhauls for the critters a bear will still want to rape your ass for removing his home.
Why can't environmentalists talk to one another and get a straight story.
Cutting down forests should be dependant on how many cute, cuddly animals call it home. If a forest is full of nothing but scary bears and bees and other ugly animals, it has to go. Rabbit and deer-filled forests can stay.

Forests are mosaics, not static stands of old growth. (There are plenty of animals that use new growth stands as well).
Historically, fires would rage across the landscape, and there would be a good mix of tree age classes out there.
Now, we've been suppressing fire for over a hundred years... in the US our national forests are firetraps that burn at very high intensity due to the amount of fuel that's packed into them, and a huge amount of habitat is destroyed.
Proper timber management that maintains age class diversity and lowers fuel loading is a great solution... but sadly any time the U.S. Forest Service tries to do anything, they get sued.

I really wish people in general knew the difference between a hypothesis and a theory
yes yes evolution is a theory but so is us rotating around the sun
I always challenge those "evolution is only a theory" people with the grand theory of gravity. I suggest they jump off a tall structure, because who knows, it may really be bullshit.

Why 11? That's a crappy number. I mean, I know it's prime, but that doesn't make it good.

Hey now.
damnit.
I took care of it, though.
stupid sun
like, i hear they grow on them. is this true?
doesn't an old-growth forest have more mosses and lichens and stuff
I was sitting out in the sun all day during Track and Field Day and didn't think to put on sun block or anything.
When I got home I fell asleep, and woke up a few hours later in agony.
For the next week or so my face was dripping puss and scabbing over.
I don't like gooey stuff on my skin, I suppose
He was envious of my beauty and tried to burn it off.
(his appearance on Penn & Teller's "Bullshit" show was good too)
well you are going to have to learn to like it if you want to get with me
