Red Arremer's Drawings!

Hello, I've been lurking on the site awhile and there's some really great artist. I was wondering if I could get some help on some stuff.

I drew this based on a picture I had of myself, using some structure lines. This is before any instruction except a semester of Art Fundamentals, and what I learned on the Portrait drawing site in the tutorials thread. I'm pretty pleased with it, even though it doesn't look exactly like me.

Same as the German Knight.

This is just a little bit of what I've drawn, but it's probably the best. Anyways, my problem was that I bought Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain and Anatomy Lessons from the Great Masters , and I've been reading DotRSotB, and it talks about R-Mode, pretty much the whole purpose of the book. I can't seem to realize if I'm in it or really recognize the difference of it from my normal state of mind, but I feel like I can draw what I see pretty well. I did the vases/faces drawing, and felt bad when I didn't experience "conflict". Am I not going into R-Mode, or am I and I just don't feel it? Does R-Mode even matter?

I like the self-portrait. It could use some context, perhaps a bit of neck and shoulder to make it look less like it's floating in the void. I never got through much of Drawing on the Right, so I don't feel like I can comment on them, but they look accurate, for what that's worth.

Edit: And a little more detail in the ears would be good, too.

Thanks. The thing was, I was copying from a picture with a lot of shadow on one side, and bright sunlight on the other, and it was a 4x6 picture, so I couldn't get the detail in the ears right, but yeah, it does look bad. I was trying to duplicate the picture almost exactly, but the ears ended up looking crappy and flat because of the bright light in the picture (and my bad job of adapting them to the paper).

I'd recommend trying a self portrait from a mirror. It's more difficult to keep a static pose and expression, but I find I gain more by drawing from life than drawing from a picture of life. Nonetheless, it's excellent, please keep posting your work.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I think I have to do it anyway, at the end of DotRSotB.

Some more stuff. All of these are pre-DotRSotB and Anatomy Lessons from the Great Masters, which I haven't even started yet.

As you can see, I really like the guy in the middle.

Ugh, I really spent a while on this, and it still looks like he's sitting on an invisible platform. I also don't really think he looks like Peter Parker.

One of my favorites, I think I did a good job on it.

Just shout it out if you know who this is.

    The Zebrilla.

I have a few ink drawings, but they suck. Maybe I'll post them tomorrow. Other than the monster, which was done with a solid graphite stick, all these drawings are pencil. Happy Dissembling.
