A 5 year old and their Wii

My cousin is about 5 and has a Wii. She's a pretty good little video gamer, kicks ass at locoroco.
Her parents asked for my advice on games, and I suggested WarioWare. Any other ideas? I don't really know what the options for her might be.

Mario Party?

I don't know. Excite Truck, Rayman RR, Wii Play, maybe Elebits, maybe Big Brain Academy.

WarioWare is a good choice, I'd say Elebits too because it's really easy to get to grips with and it can be fun just hurling stuff around the room.

Children can be pretty odd with what they like though, if it's possible then letting her try some games that you/a friend has would be the easiest way to see what she would like.

I've tried her to play Elebits on my system, but it didn't seem to take. Perhaps she was just add-ing out too much that day.

I would definitely say Rayman RR, easy to control and funny, but still actually a good game.

Resident Evil 4. No seriously, it's such a good game....

I only own Zelda and RE4 for my Wii, so I have no other good suggestions. I have heard Wii play is fun.

Rayman: RR is such an obvious choice it practically screams out at you. And its scream sounds like "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH!"

Also, Super Monkey Ball and Sonic are both age-appropriate and of reasonably high quality.

Kororinpa Marble Mania. I'd second that. It's a really good game with a big "cute" factor.

As much as Zelda seems like too much of a game for a 5 year old, I was 5 when I first played Zelda for the NES, so maybe it would be okay.

I get the feeling it's at least a bit different when the only controls were left, right, up, down, sword and secondary weapon.

If she's only 5 you might want to consider something like Cars. If she liked the movie, the game is actually pretty decent.

Definately Kororinpa - it's really fun and she'll love the different unlockable marbles.

If she likes sports she might take to Mario Strikers too.

If they have it hooked up to the web, get her some Wii points. I know my niece at that age loved the original Sonic game and Mario/Bonk are great for that age group too.

Yes, it's pretty crappy. I hope the next one doesn't feel as rushed, or gamecubey. Also, the major downside is that you can be forced to play it when you have friends over, because for some unexplicable reason they find it fun. Or, in your case, you may be forced to play it with your cousin.

I could see how a 5 year old might enjoy it, though.

I've never played any MP before 8, but I thought 8 was a lot of fun. My wife plays it a lot too. I think a 5 year old would enjoy it and wouldn't really care if it's not as good as one of the other versions.

Lots of good stuff on the VC:

    Bomberman 93
    Bonk 1 2 and 3
Anything with Mario in the title (Mario Kart I bet would go over well)
    Donkey Kong Country
Anything with Kirby in the title
The Legend of The Mystical Ninja
    Star Fox 64
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (NES title is out now hopefully we will see the SNES games soon)

Other great titles too but those were off the top of my head for the youngins

Also while its not out yet Namco is releasing a arcade collection with some remixes and whatnot of classic games. There is also a Pinball Hall of Fame game coming with digital versions of classic tables.

    Manhunt 2.

My 1.5 year old hasn't made the connection between the controller and what happens on the screen yet...but she's really careful to make sure she puts on the strap before she picks up the Wiimote to play with it. Hooray imitation!

Super Paper Mario is simple and fun, and you can let her see first hand how awsome games used to be before that third D started butting in.

It's really hard to get some kids to play the old games though.

It kind of maddens me, I've tried showing my younger relatives (who are into gaming, already) some of the classic games I grew up on, and they just think they're stupid. While they're wearing a retro-Nintendo t-shirt that says 'Know Your Roots'.

Kids these days, no respect, I tell ya.

VC games for a 5 year-old will give you the most variety for your buck. Plus, most of them are really simple.

I think the rotating mechanic would be pretty hard for a 5 year old to get their head around.
