A Brief Question on DS Homebrew

I am going to be ordering an M3 Simply very soon, so I was looking through that old DS Homebrew thread for various applications I could use. However, I came across a post on bridging the... SL1 connector or something like that. And while being able to skip the warning screen and all that jazz is nice, is it necessary? I skimmed over a few pages of the thread to see, but couldn't find my answer.

So, my question: Is the M3 Simply usable without bridging this connection, therefore skipping the risk of bricking my DS?

It's not necessary, if I remember correctly that is only required for bypassing the warning screen and getting download play to work properly. I might be mistaken about the download play, but regardless, you'll be fine without having to risk bricking your DS. I have a EZ Flash V with the 3-in-1 for GBA games, works perfectly. Best $50 ever spent on anything for my DS.

With M3 there is no need to bridge the connection. No flashing required. No risk of brickification.

That's actually the one I'm looking at. Is it pretty much compatible with all the homebrew out there? I'm particularly looking to run DScent, SCUMMVM and DS Organize. How big of a memory card do you have in yours and is it pretty easy to configure and get started?

With the DLDI patching, pretty much anything is compatible with any card. I haven't tried any of the three apps you mentioned, but this list shows DS Organize and SCUMMVM to be compatible. Make sure you have someway of reading the MiniSD card on your PC though, the EZ Flash doesn't come with an adapter.

I am using a spare 512mb Sandisk MicroSD card that I had in my phone, with a 2gb Kingston on the way. I would recommend against Sandisk, they are supposedly the slowest card, with kingston being cheaper and much faster. As for setting it all up, eventually its pretty simple, but damn is it hard to find any decent instructions for this thing. I regretted the purchase at first but then I finally read some obscure post on a forum somewhere that was the master key to it all. With that said, if you go that route and need some help or tips hit me up on MSN or AIM. They're in my profile.

Edit: And to clarify, the 512mb is really sufficient for all I need on my DS, but I'm going for the 2gb to throw some music on there and some more apps that may not get as much use, but may be handy every now and then. Less fucking around with the card. And, I highly recommend Colors, keeps me occupied on El rides between campuses, even for a person that can't draw.
