Fruit basket alternatives?

So I'm looking to get a somewhat simple "thank you" gift for someone that did me a favor, and while fruit baskets are nice and all I'd like to change it up a bit. I know there's wine, cookies, chocolate... any other ideas?

Plenty of baskets - besides the ones you mentioned, I know muffin baskets are popular. Beer might be an option too.

EDIT: I googled Gift Baskets and found www.gifttree.com which seems like a nice site for ideas at least, though I would say you might want to look around for more local options.

Cool I'll check it out, thanks.

I planned on having it sent anyway.

I wonder why gifts are so often packaged in baskets.

I think cookies are a good idea. Everyone likes cookies.

I happen to be a big fan of "Harry and David" fruit baskets. I love their pears.

Agreed. Harry and David baskets kick ass. They have a nice range of prices and options, and the quality is very high, so it's worth considering.

Saves you ever having to go out any buy one :P i'm in my parents' kitchen now, and there must be half a dozen lurking on top of the cupboards.

A muffin basket sounds fantastic... depends what they're into, though. Also, if you know they're on a diet then loading them up with treat foods might be taken the wrong way :P

    there's always flowers, of course.

You might also consider something that lasts a little longer like candles and stuff. Some people really go crazy for candles and lotion. I'm pretty sure Bed Bath and Beyond has online ordering of gift baskets.

I don't think he's the candles and lotion type, maybe his wife would enjoy taking it from him though.

I've been leaning towards the food thing now, maybe not fruit but yes everyone loves cookies.

Well I see you live in new york, so you might just be able to get a Biltong Basket. It's freaking delicious and I'm willing to bet your friends will have never had any.
