Golf RPG - Shot Online

After reading the news post on the front page there about how Tiger 08 should be more of social game with RPG elements and such I thought I'd post in here about an acctual golf RPG.

Its a free game called Shot Online.

Essentially you create a Golfer and then as you play you can level your player up like any other RPG. You get more experience by playing a round of golf with others and you also receive gold depending on your performance.

When you log in you spawn in a little golf village where you can walk around and visit various stores where you can buy clubs, have them repaired, buy clothes etc. You can join guilds and when you visit the course to play a game you acctually have to pay green fees in order to play. Theres also tournaments as well you can enter

Its really quite different from your run-of-the-mill golf game.

So yeah when I saw that news post I thought I'd write about it here. Its called Shot Online... its a golf RPG.

I reject your reality and substitue my own !

First and only post is basically an ad for an online golf game. That does not look good...

I played around with Shot a couple of years ago and it was a decent game. I didn't feel the need to spend any money on it (it was a free beta at the time) so my experience was limited...

Hot Shots Golf 5 (Everbody's Golf 5 in JPN) also has a nice online feature. You log in, go into a room and sign up for a tee time. After that you can chat a bit with others in the room and when your tee time comes up you play golf. Everyone plays the same hole at the same time and you are given between 120 - 180 seconds to finish. People who can't keep up are dropped from the game.

My experience is limited since I don't speak Japanese but I've played a few rounds and it's a fun game.

Well I wouldn't say I was advertising it... I don't work for the company that makes it... I don't care if you play it or not as I don't win anything from it if you do... I'm mearly pointing out that its there specially after the main news post talked so much about how golf combined with RPG elements would be a good thing. If being helpful and pointing out something like that acctually exists already is a bad thing then maybe in future I won't try to be helpful then... 0_o. Way to welcome me into your community of Gamers.

    On another note...

I've also tried Hot Shots Golf (Everybody's Golf outside the US) although it was 4 I had and I never for to play it online as my PS2 has never been connected to the interweb. I've always liked golf games with the traditional 3-click swing interface and HSG is really good, I like it a lot. The analog swing in Tiger 07 & 08 is far too sensitive and I can't get to grips with it on the 360 versions mostly because I'm used to using the right thumbstick to swing like in the previous PS2 versions rather than the left one like it is now.

I was kinda looking forward to Tiger 08 as it had the 3-click back but like... with the dodgy reviews it got and how it looks more or less exactly like 07 which I already have... I'm not sure its worth the £45 - £50 that EA want from me to buy it.

Is this one of those games where although you can download and play it for free, you need to pay to get any decent equipment?

I think you pay for access to tournaments and courses.

And theres also a version for it one the Wii which I have, Super Swing Golf. Its really fun and I encourage everyone to at least rent it.

Also, if you expect Tycho or Gabe to read this, they despise these forums and would rather nuke it from orbit than set their eyes upon it.

Well, it's sort of true. They got very angry at the forum during the Halo2 Clusterfuck (When a Bungie employee posted some sort of special news on this forum first as part of their media campaign..... and got banned for sitewhoring because of it). They also don't read the forum much, except the SE++ comic commenting thread, which gets occasional comments from Gabe. I don't think they actively hate it though, i mean the forums do get hardware upgrades, software upgrades, et al.

It was before my time I guess. That's just sad, now it feels as though we're just a bunch of supporters that are hated.

I thought they liked their community.. but hey, that's off topic already, so let's just leave this for another time.
