Swollen Eyelid?

So over the course of yesterday, my right eyelid has kind of puffed up, and it's slightly worse this morning. It's probably some kind of infection or something. My eye itself is fine, it's just the eyelid is getting swelled up and a bit red. I've decided that if it's not getting better by tomorrow or so, I'll go see a doctor about it.

My question is, do I go to an eye doctor for this, or just a general practitioner?

A GP will diagnose this just fine. It's probably just bacterial and you'll probably just get prescribed an anti-biotic goop that you get to apply to the eyeball a couple times a day for the next few days.

I'm really hoping it goes away on it's own. Last thing I need is more doctors bills.

It's (99.9% chance) a sty, the most commonly diagnosed eyelid disorder.
It won't go away, and you need to go to the doctor.
It's a cheap fix, but you're going to want to get it seen to.

They cast a shadow like a sundial in the morning light. It was half past 10.

I don't think that's what it is. It's really the whole eyelid, not just one lump.

The whole thing can swell up pretty decently, with cellulitis. Is it warm and red at all?

It's a bit red, not really any warmer than the rest of me, as far as I can tell.

I've had my entire eyelid swell to the point that it almost closed the eye.
It was a sty under the lid. Antibiotics are pretty cheap. Got health insurance? College student?

Uh, you don't need to go to a doctor for a sty. They go away on their own.

Sounds like a sty to me, but I'm not actually a doctor. Yeah.

Anyway, if you can see anything like a pimple or something like that under the eyelid, its probably a sty. As far as I know, but I could be wrong.

To get rid of them just put a hot compress or even a hot tea bag on the eyelid a few times a day. It makes it hurt less and heal faster.

But that might not do anything if it's not a sty.

Yeah and if that's a bacterial infection you're giving it heat and moisture and that'll totally not blow up in your face.

Just see a damn gp. It's your EYE. This is one of those pieces of anatomy that you want to take care of.

Well the swelling went down over the course of today and I was able to confirm it is indeed a sty, just under the eyelid. Compressing it helps and I'm sure it will drain or burst or something soon enough. Thanks for the advice all.
