XBox Vanilla

My wife just bought me an Xbox 360 Elite. I never had the vanilla Xbox.

I'm out of the loop as far as consoles go. I know about Halo and Crash Bandicoot and EA sports-blah. Are there any from this list that are hidden gems, or games that I would pay 100 dollars for but won't have to, or anything else that...gets you excited?

List for backwards compatible games is here.

    Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy is a must.

I agree with most of above too.

Breakdown was one of my favorite games of that gen. It was also a very unique game imo, I haven't played else quite like it..The trick is finding a copy

List for backwards compatible games is here.

My thoughts on the BC list:

    # BLACK -> Not anything incredible, but I thought it was an enjoyable "shoot everything in sight" kind of game
    # Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth -> Not perfect by any means, but a decent game with a good atmosphere
    # Crimson Skies®: High Road to Revenge -> Fun flying game with great multiplayer and super cheap now.
    # Dai Senryaku VII: Modern Military Tactics -> One of the few turn based strategy games for the Xbox
    # Deathrow -> fun, unique futuristic sports game. Only local multiplayer, but still fun.
    # Destroy All Humans! -> funny and pretty fun to play
    # DOOM 3 -> going through on multuplayer can be fun
    # Guilty Gear X2 #Reload New <- good fighting game
    # The Incredible Hulkâ„¢: Ultimate Destruction <-fun game
    # Justice League Heroes <- Balder's Gate/Xmen Legends/Marvel Ultimate Alliance type game. Not as good as those, but still okay. Only local multiplayer.
    # kill.switch <- I really enjoyed this game. should be pretty cheap
    # The King of Fighters Neowave <- Good fighting game. Might be issues with the compatibility, but I recently checked it out and it seemed to work fine.
    # The King of Fightersâ„¢ 2002 & 2003 <- good fighting game (2002), the the compatibility is a little messy right now. 2003 not BC
    # Kingdom Under Fire: The Crusaders <- fun game
    # Marvel vs. Capcom 2 <- harder to find and expensive, plus, the compatibility is lousy right now
    # Metal Armsâ„¢: Glitch in the System <- one of my favorite games on the Xbox. Fun single player and decent single system multiplayer
    # Ninja Gaiden <- good game
    # Ninja Gaiden Black <- upgrade over original, lacks the hidden NES versions of the games the original had, but includes the arcade version (if I remember all of that correctly)
    # Panzer Dragoon ORTA <- good game
    # Phantom Dust <- good, unique card battling game, should be cheap used
    # Psychonauts <- good game
    # Sonic Mega Collection Plus <-good collection of classic Sonic games
    # Soul Calibur 2 <- good fighting game
    # Star Wars Battlefrontâ„¢ II <- decent game, can be fun online
    # Star Wars®: Knights of the Old Republic <- good game, one of the better Star Wars games around
    # Star Wars® Knights of the Old Republic® II: The Sith Lords <- not the game the first one was, but decent
    # Star Wars Republic Commando <- I really like this game. Not long, nothing special, but pretty fun. basic multiplayer. Should be cheap
    # Street Fighter® Anniversary Collection <- excellent fighting game which includes SFIII:Third Strike. BC seems to be okay
    # Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon
    # Tom Clancy's Ghost Reconâ„¢ 2
    # Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon™: Island Thunder™
    # Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon® 2 Summit Strike
    # Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® 3
    # Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six® 3 Black Arrow™
    # Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell®
    # Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Chaos Theory™
    # Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Double Agent™ New
    # Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell® Pandora Tomorrow™
All of the Tom Clancy games are pretty solid if you are into what they offer and most should be pretty cheap
    # Ultra Bust-A-Move <- it's bust-a-move, so if you like that, it's good. Should be cheap and has online play
    # Unreal Championship 2: The Liandri Conflict <-pretty good game, the multiplayer can be fun and should be cheap

I was trying to go for lesser known games

Regeneration is the only good evil dead game ever, and nobody bought it

MvC 2 is a fool's dream (though you should really talk to activision or ea or whoever you need to about getting that on XBLA, capcom)

Psychonauts for sure. Buy it on Ebay or Amazon if you have to. It's just such a fun and unique experience. I wish they would make a sequel...

On the money saving end of the spectrum, buying a used copy of Sonic Mega Collection Plus is cheaper than buying each game seperately on XBLA as they come out.

    # Call of Cthulhu®: Dark Corners of the Earth -> Not perfect by any means, but a decent game with a good atmosphere

This game scared the shit out of me. Also, it's rather difficult, but in a good way--makes you feel like you really are a mere mortal confronting hideous, all-powerful alien forces.

It has issues, but the pluses outweight the minuses for Dark Corners. Easily one of my favorite hidden gems of the last gen.

    Game spoiler:
The fishmen attack at the hotel and the ensuing chase has to be one of my favorite OMGWTF?!?! game freak-out moments of all time.

I've been meaning to find out something, but I don't have a copy to test it on.

Street Fighter Anniversary Collection has SF3, right? Does it have online multiplayer? If so, does the multiplayer still work when emulated on an XBox360?

Morrowind finally made it? Well, time to brush off my pocket guide to Tamriel...

Also, just a heads up, KOTOR 2 is buggy on the 360. Broken buggy. Please no jokes about the original being as same.

That is an awesome scene. For me, it was nice because I've read the original story it's taken from:

I greatly enjoyed Midway Arcade Treasures 1, it has lots of timeless classics (Smash TV!) and is like 7 dollars.
