Audacity: Recording Output?

I recently downloaded Audacity on my OS X MacBook, and while on my Windows-based desktop I could record the sound coming from the speakers (Line Out, I believe), I cannot figure out how to do this with the OS X version. Anyone know?

It's been a while but I think with Audacity to record the sound coming out it's the option called "Stereo Mix" or something, not "Line Out."

Ah, yes, that is it. I just don't know how to make my Mac have it available as an option...

It's very odd, but I've had the same problem. For some reason on the OSX version the only options they have (goto pref. I/O) are built in Mic, and Line In. What I ended up doing to solve the problem is running a short mini-mini cable (I had one kicking around from an old Tuner card) from the Headphone line out, straight into the Line in. In Audacity I set the Line in to be monitored live. (On the main screen under the line-in volume) Someone else on PA did the same thing a while back too.

That worked for me. If you want something more permanent I suggest the Audacity web site. I'm sure someone has made a plugin that will help.

Two ways to do it. One, install Soundflower, and route the audio from one app to another. Two, go into Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, and create an IAC bus, routing audio into Audacity.

Or you could ignore Audacity and just use AudioHijack
