[HELP ON] Gamer Funk - Games Games Everywhere, and not a drop to play?

Ok I'm what most would call a cyclicle gamer. I rotate between genres pretty agressively month by month. One month is RPGs, the next is FPS, the next is RTS. I have a bit of a problem right now though. I'm in what I like to think of as a gamer funk. I can't think of any decent games to play. I've replayed a couple of things that I do have, Bioshock, Supreme Commander, Dawn of War, BF2142, Pirates, Strikers, Paper Mario, Company of Heroes, Pokemon, but it seems I need more. Lemme list my current load out.

PC - strong enough to run pretty much anything you can dish out short of bioshock at max
DS - The handheld king
PS2 - The relic that keeps on gaming
Wii - Move move move

So why should you give a crap you ask? Because I'm completely befuddled in regards to what I should be playing right now and I'm looking to you all for suggestions. The stuff I currently have on the docket...

Resident Evil 4 - Wii Edition
My problem with this is that I get pretty damn scared easily, but I do love to shoot stuff so I'm tempted. The fact that I actually had a nightmare of those damned Iron Maidens before the freakin game came out made me twitch a bit. (artist's mind = fucked up imagination = bad bad things).

Odin's Sphere - PS2
So very tempted thanks to my friend showing it to me the other day. I haven't seen much discussion on it, but the game looks beautiful. Shame I never played it when he was showing it to me, which is where most audiences are split.

Persona 3?
The hype built here tempts me, but it would truly be a blind buy since I've never played a Persona game in my life.

Metroid Prime - Corruption
Never played any of the Primes. Heard this one was the end all do all. Metroid's requirement to explore stuff rubs me the wrong way, since if you stick me in the FP perspective, I expect to be killing things, that's just how I roll.

I'm not limited to those, but I'm only looking to purchase one game today. I'd love to get into the betas for games too, but I haven't been aggressive enough to get in to the ones I'd want to play (COD4, Quake Wars). So please...help!!!!!!

RE4 Wii Edition is shit hot. Its a little spooky, but mostly not. Unlike other Resident Evil games it's very actiony and improvisation / exploration are key. You know when an area is clear by the music, so aside from a startle or two there's not much to give you nightmares.

The iron maidens honestly weren't that big a part of the game, and by the time you get to them you really don't care. Plus if you're lucky you can find the game new for 25$ or so, I found it online and had to order it.

Metroid Prime Corruption is nice too, but it hasn't grabbed me the way RE4 Wii did, and I had already played RE4 on last gen. The controls are just that spectacular.

I think Quake Wars has an open demo, not a Beta, today. Not sure though.
    http://www.fileplanet.com/168864/160000/fileinfo/Enemy-Territory:-Quake-Wars-Demo-(FilePlanet-Premiere)

MP3 is decidedly good, but I wasn't blown away. Also, although it is more "shooty" than 1 and 2, the actual action is still leagues tamer and more simplistic than most other FPS games, so I'm not sure if that's your game.

From the list, I'd say RE4.

Quake Wars does indeed now have a freely downloadable demo.

I would throw in another vote for RE4, but since you mentioned you have the mind of an artist, seriously, play Odin Sphere. It mixes lush hand-drawn visuals with classic side-scrolling beat-em-up style gameplay, with many RPG twists thrown in for good measure. It's gorgeous and wonderful.

Plus, it's going to be a lot harder to find later on compared to those other ones. Except maybe Persona 3, though a friend of mine was hyped up extremely for it and he found it disappointing. I think it just wasn't for him.

Yeah I'm a metroid vet. I have the originals on the VC. My hang up is that its in first person, which I usually attribute to fast paced kill stuff mode. The platforming version of the first Mets (not the primes), lended itself to wandering around. Could be just me. I'm off to the game store as we speak. Lets see what I come back with.

I know they're old, but if you haven't played them yet: the Prince of Persia GameCube titles for your Wii. I picked up Sands of Time on a whim for $4 this weekend, and it's just flat out fun.

Heck, if you haven't owned a GC just hit the back catalog. The games come cheap, and a lot of them are pure awesome. Of course, if you had a cube back in the day this post isn't very helpful...

Whoops, meant to take Company of Heroes off the list because you already have it. My bad. I'll go ahead and add Half-Life 2: Episode 2, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. You can buy all 3, plus Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode 1, for $35 off Steam right now. That is quite possibly the best $35 that a human being can spend.

I just want to mention that I actually recognised the title that was adapted from the the Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner. Pretty cool for a gamer!

My vote goes for Prime by the way, I've always wanted to play one, never had a nintendo machine to play on though.

He probably just adapted it from the "Water water everywhere and not a drop to drink" line which has long ago transcended the Rhyme of the Ancient Seattle Mariners Baseball Franchise and is now just a pretty common saying.

And yeah. TF2 beta next Monday. I hope you don't have any other plans. Fortress Forever actually comes out sometime before then, even.
