The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
So, with the new season approaching and training/rookie camps getting underway, let's get excited about the new season.
The NW division looks as deep as hell this off-season, so no, I don't think that the Pacific is suddenly the place where it's at. Roenick should be an interesting addition to SJ though.
Also, considering how the Summit Series went, do the players who excelled prove that the this year's draft wasn't so weak as people though OR were the Russians that bad?
I just started getting into hockey last year after going to a few Thrashers games at Phillips Arena, and I can't wait for this season to start. I'm hoping that the Thrashers will get farther than they did last year (0-4 in the playoffs to the Rangers was depressing to watch), and hopefully I'll be able to go see a few games.
It's nice to see the growth of support in Nashville, but that team was sort of ripped apart this summer from the inside out. I think you'll make the playoffs, but probably in 7th or 8th.

I am supporting the Atlanta Thrashers, not the Nashville Predators, the Thrashers still have most of their important players and I'm hoping they have a good season and better playoff performance this year.
If anything, if Atlanta gets knocked out early again like last year in the playoffs, I'll just root for Ottawa. They have Heatley, who was the player that got me interested in hockey, and they're a very fun team to watch between Heatley, Spezza, and Alfreddson.

Roenick will be interesting in a "will he shut the hell up and not be a cancer in the room" sort of way. He really probably should have stuck with the decision to stay retired. He's probably just chasing that 500 goal mark he's close to.
The Super Series has mainly proven that Russia doesn't produce anything besides forwards these days. Their defense and goaltending prospects are simply not NHL calibre.
Also every team is wearing the new RBK Edge jersey technology from the Allstar Game this year. Many have new designs, though old classics like the Rangers, Red Wings and Habs are unchanged.

The Northwest always gets shafted compared to a good team in, say, the southeast or central divisions. Far be it for the league to address this through a saner playoff format, though.
Erm... You must use a different definition of the word "sucks" than the rest of us. He basically single-handedly took the Penguins from being consistently the worst team in the league back into being in the playoffs. Not only that, but he snagged the most points of any player.
As for me, rooting for the Canucks as usual, though honestly I'm not expecting much more than last season. All they really have going for them is Luongo. Naslund is, imho, pretty much washed up and I don't see the Sedins getting a whole lot better at this point (Though they are pretty good right now).

Oh right, hockey's starting again. Guess its time for my annual cheer/prayer that this'll be the year that the Leafs'll win the cup. Finally. Yeah...
As for actual prospects, I wonder if any of the other Canadian teams can put it altogether this year and get past those near-cupgrabbing collapses of the few recent seasons. Probably will stick with Ottawa again unless any of the others shows to be having an amazing year.
Ottawa is probably the best of the Canadian teams still. I love my Canucks, but they don't score enough goals to win anything. Oilers are rebuilding, Flames hired Keenan (Has he won a play off round since 94?), Leafs are going to be their usual mediocrity, Habs could be be pretty good if their young players work out but Roman Hamrlik is no Larry Robinson.

So what do you do when both your captains fled your team for bigger money?

"We lost a full season of hockey to end up with the same bullshit as before" :?:
I assume you're talking about the Sabres. They'll still be a pretty good team.
Yeah, but - man, I'm still shaken up about the collapse in the finals when every indication was that this should have been our year. Add on to that the Bill's little dance on my feelings Sunday, and it's gonna be another tough year to be a Buffalo sports fan.

And Crosby sucks.
