XP Install stuck formatting

I'm trying to reformat/reinstall XP on a Toshiba Laptop.

I've done this many times, with this copy of XP Pro.

In the setup, I chose to format partition C, and it gets 15%, every time.

I've tried deleting the partitions and starting over, everything that you can do through the setup screen, but it still gets stuck.

Anyone?

Really, really, really stupid question here, but... might there be a scratch/smudge on the CD?

I've had similar installation issues with windows and other software, and every time it turned out to be a scratch or smudge in the CD itself.

It was the same version, but I tried multiple CDs - so thats not the problem.

I actually got around it just by doing a quick NTFS format, which isnt as good, but atleast it works.

When you get windows installed, I recommend you do a Scandisk on the drive. The only time I ever see a computer have trouble formatting a disk is when it has bad sectors.
