Game Industry: "After Lost Odyssey, we're done."

JamesKeenanJamesKeenan Registered User regular
edited September 2007 in Games and Technology
The collective voice of the entire game industry made a statement today.

"Following this year, with the major hits all being released so close together, we as an industry feels things have gotten so good, too good in fact, that we're stopping. It was a tough decision, but after carefully examining exactly how badass this year was, we knew we had to call it quits. We had reached our goal. Nothing new or better could ever come of us.

What really drove the nail home though, however, was the 10 minute demo of Lost Odyssey (link below). The clip itself is Awesomeness itself made corporeal. Lost Odyssey is the divine offspring of Fucking, and Awesome. Awesome Incarnate. And with other such hits as Mass Effect, video games can't get better, so were stopping. We plan to finish off all games currently in production, such as Spore, but no new projects will ever be started again. Nor need they be."

God also made a statement in reaction, "Lost Odyssey was, in truth, originally an accident. I was trying to bring about the next messiah, but it apparently didn't translate so well from Divine to Human, and this is what came out. I think it's a comparable alternative, however."

Older Video

Newer Video

Srsly. The main character of LO is Kaim. Do I even need to make a joke here?

Game Information:

Lost Odyssey's storyline takes the player through Kaim's life, a man who has been sentenced to live for 1,000 years. He lives through multiple generations, becomes a part of many families, falls in and out of love and gets into conflicts. All this is set in a world that is on the verge of a mystical industrial revolution, where mankind has attained dark powers.

That's it. It's probably not the best game ever. I apologize for the sensationalism, and perhaps slight sarcasm. I know people usually don't use or understand these. However, I'm not really sorry. >=(

No? More like, just something other than "Cool game, discuss."

I wasn't really specifically trying for anything other than "not dull." The game looks awesome, the demo is incredible. I didn't see any threads discussing it, and I just thought that the original post was a more clever way of bringing it up than... eh. Oh well.

I'd change the thread title to "holy crap Lost Odyssey is awesome" or somesuch, otherwise people would think it's an industry analysis thread.

I don't think you used the word "awesome" enough. The more you use it, the funnier it gets.

P.S. Lost Odyssey does look awesome.

i remember watching the E3 demo video. It looked so fucking awesome. It was some cutscene or whatever of a guy rushing into battle between two humongous armies and cutting down these huge, monstrous looking foes with nothing but a sword. Not only did the game look gorgeous but it was cinematically inclined as well. I had heard nothing about the game prior but it had suddenly grabbed my attention.

then the FMV stopped. The player took control. And he and the enemy proceeded to take turns hitting each other. While two armies raged in the background.

    what
    the
    fuck.

that completely turned me off of this game.

It's a few days shy of being a year old.

The E3 07 video would be a better choice of link.

There, corrected to add the newer trailer, to make up for the admittedly older video. I had both links up, from the xbox website, I just only copied one. I... I don't know why.

oh i love me a good jrpg. but after that vid i just felt fuckin LIED to. a jrpg's battle system is something you have to get to learn and appreciate over time, that I understand, but the transition between fuck-all awesome movie to two opponents poking each other was just too jarring. it's not how i picture starting a game (and yes, i understand its just a demo).

i'll look into it further when it actually comes out and read about so I'm not some misinformed twit. but as it stands right now...bleh

As a follow-up to the OP, I would like to say that, even if all the other games in development will be completed and released (and the OP mentioned Spore) I seriously doubt that he was thinking of Duke Nukem Forever.

So that's one game we can still look forward to, when no other games will be in development.

    Oh my God

Okay so that cinematic was pretty great, and I like the art style for those war machines

Then this douchebag comes leaping into the shot and damn if he isn't the ugliest looking character I have ever seen in a jRPG

And then the transition seamlessly from the cinematic was hilarious. So you can do a thing where you can go from cinematic to gameplay with no load time, but you use it to go from a fast paced battle royale to turn based? And the idle animations sucked big time, they were all just standing there!

That video was not awesome, that video was shit
