Maybe you remember Monster Madness. It's a game I followed for a long while, covered a great deal both here and on eToychest, as well as for Gamasutra. It was the classic case of a game with tremendous potential, brought to its knees by terrible execution.
Well, it seems as if Southpeak is ready to give it another go with Monster Madness: EX, a new version of the game developed for the PS3. Set for release in North America in 2008, the game, according to a statement, will boast "an all new polished look and improved game elements," through to be perfectly honest, it's going to take more than spit polish to make the game worth picking up, especially alongside games next year, when PS3 releases will presumably begin hitting their stride.
Interestingly, the team at Artificial won't be helming this project (you have to assume after numerous delays and lukewarm reception they were happy to wash their hands of the whole ordeal). Instead, Monster Madness: EX is being created by
Psyonix (Red Orchestra). Still, the devs promis refined controls and a better camera. But will that be enough to make players looking for a next-gen brawler take notice?

I tried playing Monster Madness on the 360, and while I liked the overall style of the game and what it was trying to do, it just felt kind of floaty and waaaay too difficult.
Still, I'd be more than willing to give it another go next year. Thanks for posting this!

If this new team really does fix the game's problems, then it could be onto something. I really dug Monster Madness' premise and art style... well, the out-of-game art style, anyway.
