HELP! connecting wii to the internet

ive had my wii for months, and aside from re4 and metroid prime 3, it hasnt gotten much use.
i dont have wireless internet, but ive been eyeing up a couple vc titles, so i decided to buy the usb wi-fi adapter and a 2000 point card. i installed the usb's drivers, connected it to a usb port on the back of my comp, and followed all the instructions (i.e. turn on your wii, click on the icon on your computer). the problem is, when i click on the icon my wii isnt showing up in the box. i manually put in my landlines isp and all that into the wii, but i dont think that did any good.
