Ok - we've had brief discussions of this in the VC thread, but I'm still perturbed. The TG16 games on the Wii VC have this odd blur effect to them. Presumably, there's some type of stretching of the original image happening they are trying to compensate for (as the TG16 native resolution is slightly different from that of the SNES/Genesis).
I guess my first question is - are any other people really bothered by this? I'm purposefully holding off buying any more TG16 titles until they fix it or we get officially told they are never changing it. I rarely play my downloaded TG16 games simply because they look so inferior to the other VC games. It may sound anal, but when NES games look better than TG16 it is obvious something must be done.
My second question is - Who is to blame? I want to rant and rave, I want to make my opinions known, but I'd like to bark up the right tree. Is Nintendo the one to push the issue onto since they are the ones selling the VC? Or is Hudson to blame as they are the ones with the games on the TG16 (and I would guess might be the ones developing the emulator used)?
So - everyone seems up in arms about blur added to Manhunt 2 - anyone else mad about the blur added to Battle Lode Runner?

Well it's official. I've seen everything. Someone actually complaining about the graphics quality of a TG16 game.
It really never bothered me. At all. Not even when I played Bonk an HDTV. I think it's not a big deal.
I can't tell that much of a difference on an SDTV if at all...
The only TG-16 game I have is Soldier Blade, so maybe I shouldn't judge, but I haven't been bothered by this at all either. I play on an SD-TV, which I'm sure contributes to not caring.

I find that it really depends on the game as to how noticeable it is. Dragon Spirit is much more tolerable, I think because it's a shooter you need to focus on the action and don't notice the blur as much - also there are less small details to really pay attention to. Battle Lode Runner, however, it is very much noticeable and hurts the experience because the sprites are already small, you can't help but notice that they are blurred to boot. Bonk falls somewhere in the middle for me.
Well, if they ever patch the TG16 games to fix the issue you'll be able to download an update(they've already patched a couple games), or worst case scenario re-download them. So if that's the only reason you're not buying them, don't worry about it.

Neutopia looks just fine on My Samsung 26" lcd.
I'm not really expecting anything mind blowing from the TG16; it's kind of above the Genesis but below the SNES in terms of power, right? So some blurring may be there, but it doesn't affect the game.

You're the only one that seems to have a problem. It's almost certainly never going to change, so I reccommend you never download another TG16 game, and I'm going to continue not to give a shit.

I'd maybe put it more as slightly below Genesis but quite a ways above the NES. But really, even the NES looks great for the most part on the VC, it has a nice, crisp picture. The blurring isn't the result of the system being weak, its the result of filter on the Wii's part.

Actually it was below the Genny too, if I recall.
It is a hybrid that is more powerful than the NES but not as powerful as the true 16bit consoles.
I don't own a TG16 game right now, so what's the deal? Is the emulator upscaling from 240p to 480i or something?
I was thinking about buying Blazing Lasers or something; should I hold off?
Hudson won't really address it on their message board. The majority of TG16 games are at a resolution of 256x240, whereas the SNES/Genesis are 256x224. However, the SNES/Genesis looks fine, but the TG16 looks blurry. I'm wondering if Nintendo said "VC Emulators must output at resolution xxx" and the TG was the odd man out and was forced to be scaled in some way. Apparently I'm the only anal retent that would prefer to not have my signal look like it's through a bad RF adaptor though - so buy all you want :P

Well, I'm outputting to an HDTV that for whatever reason doesn't want to display 480p at 4:3, so I've got the choice of 480p, native, stretched, or 480i, deinterlaced, blurry, and not stretched.
slightly off topic, but I can't believe they pushed the TG16 version of this onto the VC when the NES version is superior in every way (except graphics, of course). They stripped out the little bit of story the game had, slowed everything down, removed the gold dragon level path, and made the music an unintelligible mess. I guess there's always hope that the NES version will come to the VC, too.

Everything else on the vc is so pretty and crisp, it's a bummer.
I guess if you've got an HDTV you're used to everything being all blurry and shitty looking but for those of us among the sdtv elite...
