Trade in broken 360 and buy an elite?

I'm undecided whether I should sell my launch 360 for a new one and get an elite. My 360 internet hardware got fried in a recent thunderstorm(left Ethernet cable in) and it has been freezing recently anyway. I don't have any warranty for it, so I want to know if I'm better off just getting a new one. Also does gamestop buy old 360s?
