Ok - so I'm taking the plunge at the end of next week (finally) and getting a laptop. My current system has just seen much better days and I've decided I want to get away from a desktop. My biggest concern is that even though I don't care about playing the absolute cutting edge of games, I at least do want a decent increase in how my current games play...but I know nothing of current graphics cards or processors (I stopped paying attention when my budget no longer allowed me to keep up!)
Here's my current system:
Athlon 1800 (NOT 64bit or anything, just an Athlon)
1 GB of PC133 (IIRC) Ram
30 GB Harddrive x 2 (total of 60GB, old IDE drives)
GeForce FX 5700LE (AGP)
On board sound
Here's what I'm looking at
Dell Inspiron 1521
AMD Turion 64 X2 (1.8 Ghz)
2 GB Ram
160 GB Sata HD (5400 RPM)
ATI RADEON Xpress1270 HyperMemory (Integrated up to 256megs of RAM from system ram)
Paying $769
Am I going to see a decent improvement? Will old games benefit from the dual processor thing, or is it only newer software written for it? Is the video card, albeit far from the greatest, a step up from my current one (which is now at least 3 or 4 years old)? Will I be able to run Vista comfortably? Is the price reasonable?
